Moving installation location......

I'm running Vista64 and am going to add an SSD drive just for DCS BS

 

Cnn I just move my installation folders, do I need to uninstall, reinstall? Anyone gone through this?

I am thinking about this (moving from ../programfiles(86)/games/ to C:/games/) because of vista and UAC. But for most games, including BS, they will require a reinstallation due to the registry entires that will no longer be valid. I think the copy protection reg entries will be the main reason why you could not do it with BS.

I have no idea if that works flawlessly. I suggest to create FULL Partition backup, try moving the olders without reinstalling.

 

If it does not work, just restore the complete partition.

запуск сетевой игры производиться батником. запуск сингла - лаучером.

 

немного объясню про восстановление игры после переустановки и про аналогию с прошлым батником локона.

 

Акула может работать сама по себе, ей инсталляция не нужна. но что бы иметь иконки на рабочем столе и в старт-меню, путь для патчей в реестре и т.д. - сделан инсталл.

 

если нужно переустановить внду и хочется сохранить акулу в текущем состоянии делается следующее:

 

1) сохранить ветку реестра HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Eagle Dynamics\Black Shark

2) это всё, причем шаг 1 необязательный.

 

после переустановки игры нужно создать ярлык на <каталог акулы>\bin\launcher.exe

в ярлыке указать в качестве рабочего каталога <каталог акулы>, это будет сингл.

 

для мультика создать ярлык на <каталог акулы>\Multiplayer.bat

 

импортировать в реестр сохраненную ветку реестра. необязательно, но вероятно понадобится для установки патчей.

Actually BS can work by itself [without reinstalling] but in your case you'll need manually change all paths for your shortcuts in Start Menu ('Target' and 'Start in' fields) and maybe 'Path' string in this registry branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Eagle Dynamics\Black Shark. Last one needs for correct installation of the further patches.

 

Remember it is all about Russian DVD release!

You'll see the best improvement if you reinstall windows onto the SSD drive, then reinstall Black Shark there too :)

If you mean windows, then no, I don't think so [edit: you have to reactivate, but it doesn't use an activation]. As for Black Shark, I'm not sure I'm afraid - depends on how StarForce takes the machine's unique ID. Remember to deactivate before reinstalling and it should be fine.

I may hold off on this. The reviews on newegg.com by other users are not positive:

A lot of them complained about poor write speeds when installing applications or even browsing. Applications became unresponsive. I don't know if this is a problem with the drive/os or a misconfiguration on their part.

Right now I move my 'Ka-50' folder to another HDD, change paths for 'orange' launcher shortcut to the new location and start the game. It's launch just fine and even don't ask me to insert DVD disk. At least in Windows XP with Russian DVD release of BS you can freely move BS folder wherever you want.

I will only have BS on the SSD drive, and possibly the page file. A number of reasons to leave the OS where it is for now. I already have a fast HD, it will be very interesting to see if the intel SSD will smooth things out, esp over cities and in heavy weather.

 

Can't believe I'm spending that kind of money......but's it's done.
