Using a Plasma Flatscreen for Black Shark

Recommended Posts

I have a extra plasma 50" flatscreen TV at home with HDMI connections, where I plan on connecting a DVI output video card to the Plasma 50" TV HDMI input (via DVI to HDMI converter cable).

I hear that resolution problems can occur and/or adjustments need to be made on a plasma when doing this.

Any of you have experience on this topic?

I tried to connect my pc to my tv via HDMI once, everything's fine. But when I lunched the DCS, some how all the image is squeezed to the left 2cm of the screen, which is not usable at all. I went back to the monitor after that and never tried again.

I think it may have something to do with the resolution set it DCS, maybe setting it to a low resolution like 800*600 before connecting to the tv and then set DCS to you tv's natve resolution after connecting the tv.

Oh, Can I have the extra TV?:smilewink:

I thought about using a 3 yr old 50 inch plasma my brother gave me. This one has a VGA plug on it in addition to two HDMI plugs.

But isn't it bad to use a plasma for a monitor because of the risk of image burn in?

I still have to get this one fixed. which might cost up to $600. But for a $2500 TV, it seems worth it.

burn in only happens when you have the same image without motion on the screen for long periods..use the simple windows screensaver and dont worry about it!

Well I have a 15' DVI-HDMI cable for my setup...went to best buy and the cable was over $100!!!! hoped on amazon.com and got a cable for $8.95 free shipping!

dont forget that digital is digital..those fancy monster hdmi cables work exactly the same as the regular inexpensive ones....and yes its an HDMI 1.3 cable!

Not to hijack the thread but how do you guys get readable text on your screens? I have a 30in hd set that I have tried out a couple of times but I can't read a bit of the text (at least on the desktop). Especially at the edges of the screen. I have an nvidia 285gtx card and was connecting via HDMI at 1920x1080

llams, is your set 1080i or 1080p? I had a sony 26" 1080i set and the the text was pretty poor at 1920x1080 the solution unfortunatly was a dell 22" 1080p monitor now the text is very crisp. In vista maybe XP but wouldnt know you can turn on clear-type, this may help a little

are you talking about readable text on the desktop or in game..in game i can read everything fine..but on desktop i have to be 3 feet away to read websites at 1080p.....for my windows desktop I use 1360x768 its fits a 1080 tv perfectly and dont get the over scan problems of 720..and I sit about 8-9 feet away on my couch and can read everything crystal clear!

My Samsung 46" LCD Flat Screen is nice, but in a small room, it's too much 'in my face'. So I just use my old 21" crt. maybe when I move it to a larger room, I will try again with gaming on it.

If you have 1080p then your native resolution is 1920x1080 so your text should be clear although maybe a little small.

If you google "clear type" you should get a link to the microsoft website which activates it for you and gives you sample text to choose from

Lucid do you also use trackir? 8-9 feet away? and what controllers do you use? saitek? couger? my saiteks can barely reach where i sit from my tv and i sit about maybe 4 feet away. i ask because i have trouble settings up freetrack right and was thinking maybe trackir got better distance? but of course it could just be my shoddy craftmanship on freetrack and the angle of the IR reciever.

yeah you can seup track ir or something on a cheap ass tripod cloer to you or something...i am going to be getting it though.

and no,in game text works fine, its not the same resolution as the desktop...hard to explain but it works perfectly.

and If i remember the computer doest do 1080i/p just p i think as a computer video feeds is a constant signal, not the same as watching TV or movies.

cleartype is easy to turn on...just right click decktop, apperance tab, effects, then click the second box down and select cleartype. I have mine turned off for the TV but when I had my laptop screen on a made a big difference.

hey ramstein you should see the new f16 simulator it uses a 17" lcd like 2 feet in front of you and then a 46" lcd 4 feet in front of you..the smaller one is for the cockpit and the bigger one is the view...talk about in your face......meant to fill you field of vission.
