solved DCS forgotten all control mapping on throttle

I haven't used DCS for a while, so I ran all the updates and while playing realised that DCS has forgotten all my control mappings for my Saitek X56 throttle in the F-16 (can't remember if it's forgotten for other aircraft too). Seems to have gone to some default of sorts, as it has controls mapped, just not my ones. Any idea what causes this as it's happened once before? Is there any way to prevent it? It's a real bummer having to set it all up again / remember how I had it before.

Hi, maybe Windows has changed your devices ID. Please attach your dcs.log and a zip containing your "Saved Games/DCS.../Config/Input" folder.

Thanks that was really helpful, I was able to find a previous config and load it in. It worked for almost all aircraft, I'm guessing the few it didn't were just from really old updates. Think I will also make use of the Save Profile in future too — thanks!
