Hi,
Could you please help me clarify a few points about the HMD and its usage.

First of all I notice that if I am alone in the sky (no awacs, no other friendly plane...) the HMD does not display the targets spotted by my own radar (even though they are present on the SA page), is this correct?
But if, via the SA page, I do a TUC then the target appears in the HMD !

I don't really understand the logic.

On the other hand I find contradictory sources regarding the priority ranking of the MIDS JHMS PRIORITY page: is the highest priority at the bottom of the list (position 5) or at the top of the list (position 1)?

The HMD's default range at which it will display HAFU symbols is 35 miles, you can change it from the MIDS SETUP submenu of the HMD page in the lower-right corner.

thank you for your reply. Yes, I am aware of this setting, but it seems that the HAFU symbols of enemy contacts only detected by our radar, (apart from any other allied presence) are not present in the HMD.

Further question: when I use hud/hmd as SOI and select a point on the ground, why doesn't the TPG slew to it?

What do you mean by "select"?

That video is misleading and over complicated.  Basically all you need is: A-G mode selected, NO TARGET CURRENTLY DESIGNATED, HMD selected as priority (SCS FORWARD).  As long as you have the targeting reticle in your HMD, when you TDC depress that will set wherever your HMD reticle is pointing as your target point and automatically slew the ATFLIR or LITENING pod to your new target.  If you want to move to a new point, just undesignate (NWS press) and look at the new target and TDC depress and you've moved your target point AND the camera.  To slew the camera with the TDC you need to give the ATFLIR/LITENING screen priority again (SCS right usually).

If you already have a target selected then nothing will happen when you TDC depress (you'll also have a cross rather than the targeting reticle).  If you are not in A-G mode then you also won't get the targeting reticle in the HMD when you SCS forward.  You DO NOT need to press the NWS button multiple times, just once to undesignate any target.  There is no need "snowplow" the camera.  A lot of the terminology in that video relates to the F-16 and technically isn't correct for the F-18 (even if it does get the point across in some cases)

To get back to the original question, here's a trk to illustrate.
HMD range is set to max, HUD is off for better visibility, targets appear in front (via trigger) and are detected by my radar ... but not visible in the HMD.
An Awacs spawn (via trigger)... the contacts appear in the HMD... the Awacs is removed... the contacts disappear from the HMD (opperation repeated once with the same result)... ? is this behavior consistent, or is it a bug?

If I had to guess, the system is only displaying correlated trackfiles or SURV tracks, and not radar-only trackfiles. I don't know if that's correct or not since all trackfiles should be MSI trackfiles, at least in the context of the Hornet itself (SURV tracks may have different logic). Does the same thing happen if you replace the AWACS with a different kind of donator like another Hornet?

To answer one of the earlier questions regarding the priority list, number 1 is highest.

This is also what it seems to me, I find this logic bizarre!

if I replace the awacs with a fighter the result is the same (except that the hunter only gives me one contact while the targets are seven...)

Thank you for your answer
