Server Ping Timeout Questions

 

Server Ping Timeout Questions.

 

If I get a 'server ping timeout ' (>30.000000 sec) ' can that be changed to say ' (>40.000000 sec) ' maximum value ? that is workable? Or was it calculated as that the best maximum workable value? Can the timeout number be changed, and what are the ranges that can be used and customizied by the server operater using Servman?

note: I am not asking why I get timeouts.. I am asking about the values I can change, how to change them in the code, where in the code, etc.

 

Maybe there can be some code added as keep alive code, so it can take up the slack until the server can continue to deliver at an acceptable rate,, and not drop clients.

@Ramstein: this is a standard BS feature (maybe added to 1.0.1, not sure), it has nothing to do with ServMan. I have not tried it, but this is from the ./Scripts/net/default.cfg file:

 

-- default multiplayer configuration
-- DO NOT EDIT.
-- effective settings are stored in Config/network.cfg
-- apply your changes there (exit DCS first).

...

-- timeout in seconds (0 means no timeout)
-- before entering the simulation
idle_timeout = 120
-- after entering the simulation
game_timeout = 30

 

So maybe try adding a line

 

game_timeout = 40

 

to ./Config/network.cfg.

I tried and changed it from:

game_timeout = 30

 

to:

game_timeout = 40

 

and when I do get a timeout, it still says:

> 30.000 sec

 

oh well,

I wil jus tlive with it..

sometimes I fly for hours, other times that happens..

Which file did you edit?

 

./Scripts/net/default.cfg

 

or

 

./Config/network.cfg

 

./Scripts/net/default.cfg

 

I am just going to live with it.. I think that my network and computer just is not perfect, but then again none are..

i lookled at both files very carefully, and if I remember right the second one had nothing for me to change.. but I will look again..

Acedy i got another question:

I got problems with high ping Members, (> 200)

if they connect to our home-dsl-Server our "ping" is going very high.

i got my server inhome :D

Can we (you) modify the config, to stop connecting members with high pings ??

I edit both files and it never does work higer than 30.

 

How force game to higer number?

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

VERSION 2 HAS BEEN RELEASED!! REFER TO THE FIRST POST FOR UPDATES!



 

 

Important announcement: v2 is the last version of this mod that will be developed by myself. However, this does not mean that it is going to die. I know that alot of servers are using it, so I have been looking for successors who would like to continue the work. Fortunately Panzertard and =RvE=Yoda have volunteered to do so, which I appreciate very much. Thanks fellas! As you all know they are very active members of the DCS/LO community, and I am sure the mod will be in good hands. From now on they are the new developers of this tool, so please direct any suggestions for new features to them! :)

Acedy, you work is invaluable for so many people with servers - and for all the online players as well. I remember the first time I started playing online and I wondered what all those "Servman" notes in the server-titles were.

And then the first time I notice a teamkiller got kicked for shooting down his wingmen. Priceless.

Many shark hulls & online experiences have been saved due to your work, bud ;)

 

I hope Yoda and I will be able to serve the community and Servman well.

I'm sure we will try to get Servman running in FC2 (if that was your question).

But I think with some luck, it will already work right out of the box. Otherwise

we will try to make it work.

Can Servman, in any particular instance, make the server miss a trigger? or it's more probably the machine having a load spike or even the DCS server itself?
