I can't get the game to launch. I haven't tried the game for months.

When I click on the open beta shortcut, a pop up comes up with a loading bar, however it says it's already running. I've tried multiple times, ensuring I don't open it twice, but sure what to do

If you hit Ctrl-Alt-Del and access the task manager does it show any instances of DCS running?  If so terminate them with End Task.

Open Beta is no longer a thing as well so you may possibly need to force a manual update with the updater in the DCS main folder as the two branches; Open Beta and Release have merged.

Sorry, I should have said it's saying "waiting for another application copy to release".

I tried opening the DCS updated, but the exact same pop occurs with the same error message while showing a loading screen.

Check your Saved Games folder for a .lck file. Maybe it didn't get deleted when you exited DCS the last time. If it's there, just delete it and you're good to go. IF you can't delete it. Then an instance of DCS is already running.

LCtrl + LShft + Esc will take you straight to Taskmanager. Beware though. For some strange reason the dev of SRS has opted for the exact same keystroke shortcut.

Thanks for the help. I checked the saved games>DCS folder, I didn't see any .ick folder. I checked in the sub folders within the DCS folder in my saved games folder and couldn't find them. Tried Ctrl alt escape, only one instance of DCS running. Not sure what more to do.

Should I uninstall DCS completely?

I just tried DCS updated utility. It says something how it can't access the saved game folder in the C drive. DCS is downloaded to a different drive fyi. Not sure why it's not granting access or what the issues is

I tried again today and have some images to show, hopefully someone can help. I double click on DCS updater. I see the first image. I try CTRL-ALT-ESC and see only one DCS running. I hit exit and see the second image. The third image shows the folder it references. Any idea what to do? should I just delete DCS and reinstall it perhaps?

Just to cover all the bases, have you tried renaming you Saved Games folder to something else and letting DCS recreate it (i.e. run DCS after you rename it)?  That might get around it if there is a file in there causing the problem.

The lock file might be hidden. Can't remember. Try to enable "view hidden files" in the explorer settings. If that doesn't help, try what Rob says.
Cheers!

Thanks for all the help. I resolved one issue but now I have another. The original issue seems to have stemmed from a wrong shortcut...not sure why, but I went to the folder that holds DCS, used the updater there, and I have not bypassed that problem.

New problem:

I hit the get to enter my user name and password. After I do that, I first see an NVIDIA pop up, as if I am opening NVIDIA software. Then I see a "15 years of DCS" image. Shortly thereafter, DCS closes. CTRL-ALT-ESC shows it stopped running.

I have tried this a couple times with no improvement. Any ideas whats happening?

Are you in VR and have Oculus software on your computer?  That's very likely the cause of your crash.  There are a bunch of threads with details regarding that issue currently.

Alright, resolved.

I think it has to do with settings on my main windows profile. I use it for work, and remembered that we got some security software on it that has made games like Starfield not run well. So I went into a different windows profile I have for Starfield, and DCS booted up!!

Thanks everyone for your help, I appreciate it.
