Gunfreak Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 In DCS CAS isn't just Close air support. But the general default air to ground mode. It's the most useful most of the time. But many times I've wanted a flight to attack both ground units like trucks AAA etc and also attack static objects like a bunker or especially static aircraft. Would it be possible to add static units to targets in CAS mode? 5 i7 13700k @5.2ghz, GTX 5090 OC, 128Gig ram 4800mhz DDR5, M2 drive.
Northstar98 Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 +1, the task in its current form is somewhat of a misnomer, it's the de facto task when you want to destroy ground units as placed in the mission editor (regardless of the close proximity, or even presence of friendly forces, which is what makes CAS, CAS in the first place) as opposed to a fixed point on the ground with the ground attack task. Ideally, ground attack and CAS would be combined into a single strike task with options to attack groups or to bomb points on the ground. CAS would instead be dedicated to actual CAS. Pinpoint strike can also go as it's redundant, there's nothing you can do with pinpoint task that you can't do with ground attack, just that the former excludes unguided munitions, whereas the latter supports both unguided and guided weapons. 4 Modules I own: F-14A/B, F-4E, Mi-24P, AJS 37, AV-8B N/A, F-5E-3, MiG-21bis, F-16CM, F/A-18C, Supercarrier, Mi-8MTV2, UH-1H, Mirage 2000C, FC3, MiG-15bis, Ka-50, A-10C (+ A-10C II), P-47D, P-51D, C-101, Yak-52, WWII Assets, CA, NS430, Hawk. Exorcet Posted June 2, 2024 Posted June 2, 2024 This is a subset of this issue: Scripting already allows us to bypass the ME limitations so removing them from the ME entirely shouldn't be difficult, barring the most twisted spaghetti code. The AI task setting should be an organization guide only and not include hard limitations. Those should be handled through other means like target settings in enroute tasks, or options like disable the attack of air targets, etc. 3 Awaiting: DCS F-15C Win 10 i5-9600KF 4.6 GHz 64 GB RAM RTX2080Ti 11GB -- Win 7 64 i5-6600K 3.6 GHz 32 GB RAM GTX970 4GB -- A-10C, F-5E, Su-27, F-15C, F-14B, F-16C missions in User Files
