Operation Dixmude was first introduced to DCS via the Gazelle. It remains one of the best default campaigns in DCS to date. I intend to recreate the magic with the OH-58D Kiowa Operation Argonne Campaign. If you have played through the original campaign, you know why! The Kiowa working side by side with the Apache is a dream come true! There is even some L2MUMS action!

The conversion is complete! Get it here! https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3338637/

While you are at it, feel free to try out my UN Pilot Hind Conversion. Another fantastic DCS campaign, originally made for the Huey! https://forum.dcs.world/topic/276057-un-pilot-mi-24p-hind-campaign-huey-campaign-conversion

Good idea, thx! Quite strange that they didnt do any new campaign (or even mini campaign) for KW. Its a step back compared to Gazelle exactly. I had very good impresion with Operation Dixmude too.

The conversion is in progress. Let me know if you would like to contribute! I intend to release each mission as it is finished via Github, then release the campaign as a whole on ED Userfiles.

Great minds think alike!

Can you work on converting missions 5, 7, 9, and 11? I'll stick to the even numbers. my general workflow looks like this:

  • Read the brief
  • open the mission in the ME
  • replace the gaz with kiowa. Player gets guns and APKWS. AI gets M17 and guns. Fuel at 60% for all
  • change the weather to the first preset, or a different one if the brief called for it
  • Fly the mission. During the mission i take notes on what needs to change. maybe someone said "gazelle" or waypoint 8 is now waypoint 9, etc
  • Make changes to the mission

That's pretty much it. Most missions have survived the test of time with very minor changes. At the end I'll compile all the radio freqs and go back and edit all the player presets, so remember to take notes on that.

Let me know if that sounds ok to you.

Can do! I'll shoot a DM your way once I've put some stuff together

I see someone converted the campaign to the Kiowa over here https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3338399/

But it does not have weather or radios set and every mission gives you  4 HellFires, which puts you at 106% weight.

Thanks for the heads up. We will continue with our version.

The more varied the better. Just as long as there is always a standoff weapon if the mission requires it.

As the Kiowa does not fly at the same speed as the Gazelle, weapon weight should be considered.

Varied. Got it.

Coincidently, most weapon loadouts for standoff weigh almost the same.

You did better than me, I just swap the Apache with the Kiowa in the Apache version of the campaign I made :

Operation Dixmude (digitalcombatsimulator.com)

i9 9900k, 64 Go RAM, RTX 4090, Warthog HOTAS Throttle & Stick, Virpil AH64 collective, TPR rudder, MFD Cougar, Trackir 5 Pro, Multipurpose UFC, Alain Dufour's TEDAC and Oculus Rift S (when I want some VR),

Once all the missions are released, feel free to check them out and make/suggest any changes. We can work together to make the best Kiowa Campaign Ever!!!! 😛

Any news on when this will be released?

Yep. When the ED User Files moderators have approved it. It's already outta the oven and cooling off, ready to be devoured. 😛

Great job on this one !

I have flown the first 3 missions so far and the conversion seems really well made.

Just need to point out that the complete briefings for the missions are in a .pdf in "XX:\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\SA342\Doc" if you own the Gazelle which I feel are really needed in order to be able to play the missions as they are intended.

I am getting a "Mission Script Error" on mission 1 after pressing the start button.

Alright. Can you tell me more info? Possibly a log, or some special or unique circumstances? You re the first (and only) person to report this.

Well never mind. It wasn't isolated to your campaign. I was getting it with other missions as well. I ran DCS repair and that seemed to have fixed the problem. Sorry for the concern!

Thank you!
