Installation Error: BlackShark: Launcher.exe - Unable To Locate Component

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone:

I installed Black Shark and get the following error messages:

First error message:

BlackShark: Launcher.exe - Unable To Locate Component

This application has failed to start because d3dx9_38.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Second error message:

error loading module 'edTerrain' from file 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagel Dynamics\Ka-50\stable\edTerrain.dll':

The specificed module could not be found.

Uninstalling and then re-installing has made no difference. I am running Windows Vista 64 bit. Anyone have any suggestions ? Appreciate it !!

Uninstall again, manually delete all leftover folders/files, if any, clear the registry of all entries pertaining to ED and reboot.

Now when you install again, do not install in your Programs Directory.

My install path is the following: C:\Flight Simulations\Ka-50. Try something similar and install again with the attendant DX and see if the problem persists. If you still have missing .dll file errors, post here so we can upload the missing file for you in an attempt to rectify the issue.

Reinstalling the game under C:\DCS ED\Ka-50 didn't work... same errors.

My registry shows info Eagle Dinamics but only Lock On 1.1 and Lock On 1.1 Flaming Cliffs registries are shown... nothing form K-50, DCS etc.

Reinstall directx. Thats also why you are getting issues loading the terrain your direct 3d is messed up.

This is a confirmed fix. Worked for me. Thanks for the suggestion.. simple as it was.. only took about 30 seconds I never would of thought of this (and I'm exp with pc's and games)

These DirectX files with the _nn.dll names, are the updated .dll's that come in the later releases/distributions of that version of DirectX... so like, if you have 'only' the Feb 2010 distribution update of DirectX 9, and you get an error of this kind, you probably are out of date again and need the July one (etc.) instead.

So that's why 'reinstalling' tends to work, you're not really re-installing per se, but updating with newer files with newer names. This was needed when the game got patched, as the source was built against the equivalently updated distribution of the DXSDK rather than the original one it was built and shipped against years ago.

Check the 'DirectX bi-monthly updates' entry in the table of releases (actually released quarterly now, but still being updated): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX
