Frakin Toasters Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 (edited) Hey dudes, i've been wondering why my lower rotor is always raised up towards my upper rotor when it's on the right side of the chopper. It happens mainly while traveling at higher speeds, and when my ship is correctly trimmed and flying in a straight line, regardless of my direction or wind direction/strength. I assume there's a logical reason for this? I don't have time for a screenshot so this ASCII representation will have to do. ^------------------------ l l .........._____ ------^^ l l - - -- Edited May 3, 2009 by Frakin' Toasters
GGTharos Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 This is an effect of blade 'flapping' ... because on that side the blade travels faster through the air, it lifts up higher the faster you go. If you go too fast, bang ;) 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Namenlos Ein Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=40684 And many, many other threads about this phenomenon.
goldfinger35 Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 I have noticed that my wingman does not have this animation on his rotors. i7 920@4.0Ghz, 12 GB RAM, ATI 4890, LG L246WHX@1920x1200, Saitek X52 Pro, Saitek pro flight rudder pedals, TrackIR4, Audigy 2ZS, Logitech G9x, Vista 64bit.
GGTharos Posted May 3, 2009 Posted May 3, 2009 Correct, wingmen will not display this behavior. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Frakin Toasters Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 Ahhh, of course, i should have realised that, being a physics nut. Silly me. Thanks for the answer. "And many, many other threads about this phenomenon." And now you have another one. This has never caused my blades to shatter.
EtherealN Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Then you have obviously never done enough stunt flying. :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
nomdeplume Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 This has never caused my blades to shatter. Then you're not going fast enough! :smilewink:
Frakin Toasters Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 Oh i've had my blades collide enough times don't get me wrong, but not just from flying super fast in a straight line :P I like trying stunts. I'm still trying to loop-the-loop.
sobek Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 I'm still trying to loop-the-loop. What do you mean, a simple loop or something different? Single loop is not that hard, you just need enough height to recover from the dive without pulling too many gs. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Stickers Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Man I was just wondering the same thing. I would look at my wingmens blades and think... wtf his are all level with each other. Thanks for posting this. Even if it's been posted many many other times.
sildude Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 That's one reason why overspeeding can be dangerous in a coaxial helicopter. The blades will deviate so much that they actually collide. Here's more... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissymmetry_of_lift

EtherealN Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Also, if you want to get a REALLY high speed on the HUD, just give yourself a rediculous amount of wind. :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
