jmburnzy
I was looking at the P-47D-30 Thunderbolt on the website and noticed it said not for Steam version. So with my I.T. brain wondered why there had to be a different version. i downloaded the free DCS from the web site and started using it without Steam and it seemed to be much cleaner and more responsive running it without the Steam interface. You probably could buy the plane on Steam I did not check. Sorry for not explaining more detail.

The "Standalone" (as it's called when getting DCS directly from ED) offers a lot more flexibility to install very specific versions. ED also allows modules to be activated in the standalone version when they were purchased via Steam. But the other way around doesn't work, so a module purchased from ED's E-Shop can't be activated in Steam. Personally, I've purchased from ED (ever since they stepped away from selling DVDs, that is ) and never felt any urge to go the Steam way, but some people prefer Steam features like the friends list. If you've already started on the Standalone-path, I'd recommend to continue going this way. 3 hours ago, Sleeperservice said: Hello from New Zealand. Sig9mm
Good Day to all, the names Rich. I've watched from a far, I purchased many modules just as COVID hit but never really flew them until now. With horrible results no doubt but I hope to learn alot in the coming months to truly get to enjoy this simulation and community.
Lokattn
Hiya folks, I'm OPSEC, a qualified random dude on the internet. I've studied Swedish military doctrine, equipment, and history for ca. 5 years and currently run Sweden's largest privately owned archive of Swedish Armed Forces publications. Recently picked DCS back up after a ca. 2 year break from the game and am hoping to actually learn the F/A-18C and A-10C II in depth as I did with the Viggen two years ago. I'm interested in joining a squadron at some point but am not too sure about how proficient I should be before applying to one. I look forward to seeing you in the air! Best regards, OPSEC "I will now rip open heaven and earth, out."

Me and my father were puttin together a model F-16 during virtual visits. Ya know he is retired and older and in the age of covid he is home bound and aint got much to do. Thought it was a nice thing to help him spend some of his days with someone other than himself. Anyway I got curious about the jet and while looking up general information on it, I found some thread on reddit discussing its use in DCSworld and thought "Hey, why not" I haven't bought the F16 yet, I don't have a stick, so I'm seeing how quick I learn using the su-25 and they keyboard. Anyway, very happy with the sim so far though. And I'm always happy to meet new people so. Welcome. SleepyWeasel
Hello everyone I live in South Africa and have been playing DCS World steam edition since Feb 2020. Absolutely love it! I have really been practicing alot with the Harrier AV-8B and have sort of got the hang of it, although Im still a bit of a newbie. But now Im really hoping to find someone to do multiplayer with. Preferably someone who is also interested in learning more about the AV-8B so we can learn and help one another. But I dont know where to start? Which squadron to join? Who is in the same time zone as me? Anyway, I really hope to meet some fellow (newbie) pilots so we can help one another and just have a damn good time flying

Nuggetz
Hello everyone totally new to DCS but loving it so far. Purchased new hardware to get up and running quickly along with the F16 and F18 modules. Just about got the hang of the basics A2A with the F16. Loving the Syria map and Gauntlet mission, but my my does it give the hardware a cardiac trying to keep up. Couple more weeks and I might need some advice on where to get some PvP action with a gentle learning curve. SCNR In any case, welcome back to DCS! Looks like you've missed the original A-10C and can jump straight into the new A-10C II with a few new weapons and a brilliant new Helmet Mounted Cueing System. In other news, bad weather inbound - if you've seen the clouds we currently have in DCS and compare them to the clouds from the latest developer videos, it looks like DCS is going to get yet another amazing visual kick within a few months, so now sounds like a great time to come back to it. Jumpjim
Hi folks. I’m a professional pilot flying 787s for a UK airline but always fancied having a go in fighters. So I’ve splashed out on a fantastic new rig, VR headset and hoping to learn the F18 first... Really excited about flying something I can turn upside down without spilling everyone’s Gin and Tonics

BespokePainter
Morning/afternoon/evening all Been lurking for a while, playing DCS for six months or so, but now decided to finally join. Thanks for having me, looking forward to flying with some of you soon. I've mainly been getting to grips with FC3 and the Typhoon mod, the F/A-18 still blows my mind but a fantastic thing to get some stick time in. James Spartan
Hi all from France ! I tried DCS a while ago with a medium setup and a Rift CV1, the experience was not great so at this time I thought I would come back later with better hardware to run DCS. The time has come, I now have a new combo made of RTX3080, Ryzen 5 5600X and a Reverb G2. I'm not a specialist of flight sim, the last one I played was a long long time ago (I was 10 !!) and it was a 2nd world war sim I can't even remember the name ! With the end of the year sales I bought the F18 and the Nevada map. After struggling a bit to find correct settings to run all this well I'm now learning the F18 with a great pleasure ! See you in the sky pilots !

James Spartan
It was a GTX1070 paired with a Ryzen 5 1600X and 16Gb of RAM. Well at that time it was a medium setup...
