koen330
As title says: I will disable the launcher. It delays the startup of the game, does not really add new functionality and uses some cpu (even when game is running) I will disable it.... VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants
I disabled the launcher after the first time, too. I saw a video, the launcher also eats up more memory, not unexpected, but it does not seem to affect the performance once one gets into the game. Raven (Elysian Angel)
I disabled the launcher as well. koen330
The launcher has the option to easily enable/disable modules. What is actually the benefit of disabling modules/terrains? When disabled, are they removed from disk? Are the control binds-lost after disabling a module?
AdrianL
When disabling a module, it just means that is not available when you launch DCS. It is still on disk You need to disable and then select + press the delete option to remove the module from disk. Control binds are in your 'saved games' folder and will not be removed null
Art-J
Launcher might be an interesting solution for new DCS players who are used to all other flight sims already having something like it. Thus, DCS "should" have one as well. Veterans, however, probably won't find it all that useful (with exception of guys who frequently switch between VR and pancake). I doesn't provide any extra functionality I personally need, while increasing launch time and eating resources, so after taking a look at it, I disabled it as well. The best thing is - it's optional, so you do you. 1 i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10. Smashy
Has anyone else notice the launcher enabling the "easy communications" option despite disabling this during the last session? Similarly, the option to "hide stick" always gets disabled when using the launcher. Disabling the launcher makes both of these options stick for me.

Kang
So far I found the only useful feature of the launcher is that it lets you install/uninstall your modules without launching DCS for each one, but even that I haven't really tried yet, and it could have been a separate utility really. Also, it isn't really placed prominently, as it is hidden under 'Files'? Other than that, displaying the latest news isn't bad, but it is only the 'headlines' from the Website until you click on it, which kind of defeats the purpose in my opinion, it has enormous links to social media, which I can just as easily find on the website, where I would rather look for them if I ever needed them, and it lets me change the settings, which I guess is nice to have, but not all that important either. What I hate is that it looks for self-updates, then disappears for roundabout 20 seconds with literally no indication of it being started or existing, before anything happens. Paired with the fact that the actual DCS launch afterwards goes through the usual lengthy process of splash screens before even properly loading, plus it now opens and closes several windows in quick succession, which at the least looks janky, that is something that should be addressed. Things it does not do which I would find useful is have links to the manuals of all my modules (provided they have one but that's another story) perhaps relatedly have direct links to selected tutorials, at least the official ones done by Wags (Yes, there is a social media link, but if I have to sort through YT myself I don't need the launcher for that) seeing how I am logged into the launcher it would be nice if the shop portion would display things like my current miles balance or perhaps the time remaining on the current big sale Edit: Oh dear, I've forgotten one thing! The option to actually quit the launcher after doing launcher things is actually a big improvement over the old Log-In that had no option to abort. Weta43
Disabled, but maybe there should be separate shortcuts for the launcher & the .exe? As someone said it's probably useful for maintenance of modules without waiting for the sim to load & unload & load again - & for those that swap between VR & flat & want to arrive at either in the correct state - but I can't see why you'd want to add that step every time you launch the SIM. I haven't looked - is there a way to re-enable it without entering the SIM (is there any way?) if you wanted to? (I was a bit 'what was old is new' when I saw it - ED where quite invested in getting rid of the launcher not that many years ago..) Edit - A bit like Microsoft putting Unicode text back in the formula bar of excel - it doesn't make it easier to read or parse formulae & there was a reason it was dumped in the first place. Edited July 12 by Weta43 2 Cheers.
Irisz
You have to enter the password twice to start DCS World, this is a problem and unnecessary. The new Launcher has very good potential and while it is a one-to-one copy of the old in-game menu. It should be expanded with the following functions to make sense of the new Launcher! - Enable/disable track file recording on/off function! - Replay file player with a function that can be started directly from the Launcher! - All CoreMods/Liveries files can be selected drastically reduced size skins and the current TOO LARGE skins SD/HD/UHD (currently this is how the storage space reservation should be SD: 31.5 GB/HD: 63 GB /UHD: 126 GB) optional option to choose which pack the Launcher should install for the DCS World core. (My DCS World client increased by 25 GB in 1.5 months without purchasing anything) Edited July 13 by Irisz
IcerCRO
Launcher BUG - Installed/Available Modules After installing a new module (DCS2024 plane were added on) new plane notification is highlighted. After the new planes are added and installed, the notification sticks and does not dissapear - the selection remains empty. I have to click on the install-module section in game anyway. Launcher is pointless, will disable. IMO should be able to force it to launch in the command line additions. Why expend resources with wavy grass and the launcher? nullnullnull Edited July 13 by IcerCRO
AndrewDCS2005
Disabled, do not see the value of it, does not solve any of high-pri problems. From DCS 2.9.6.57650 Quote New Launcher that allows you to configure and manage DCS prior to starting the program. Who and where has asked for this? I have no use for it and I have disabled it, BUT there were lots of people (esp. using VR) wanted this to be able to launch in 2D or 3D depending if they were mission editing or flying (and it's been discussed as needed for quite a while by those people). I have no problem with ED creating this to help those people out since (esp. because I can disable it) it has no impact on me.
