Anyone else have their eye on Intel Arrow Lake for 2024?

Recommended Posts

It's an interesting topic and I have done the quick lookup few google sites, likes:

https://wccftech.com/intel-arrow-lake-core-ultra-200-cpus-z890-motherboards-launch-17th-october/

and, another version of 250.

A quick question:  will DCS can take any advantage from the new generation CPU, especially in AI with the large/small model inference service?  Or, the current market Intel/AMD CPUs are good enough with their performances today.

I am in a similar position. Waiting for benchmarks and pricing of the upcoming Intel CPUs. I could pull the trigger now and go for an i5 14500 or a Ryzen 5 7600x build. Cooling and power consumption are a big deal for me as I live in Sydney, Australia. I don't have A/C. My room can get close to 30 Celsius in summer. The rumoured power drops of the 15th gen are of interest to me. My ancient i5 7600k runs DCS fine for my settings so anything current is more than enough.

And yet they want everyone to buy electric cars 🤣
I can’t imagine a personal computer uses very much electricity. I run a powerful gaming laptop for work all day every day and I can’t say I have sky high bills.

They sometimes do things beyond common sense, E-Cars for everybody is one of those, agree 100%.

I have 2 young kids ( 8700k-Nv4060  &  5900X-7800XT + Nintendo et al ) in my home and they play a lot of PC, YT, etc...   that really sums up over time when you pay north of 0,45€/kWh.

I have over 2000h logged in FS22 since Xmas, do the math.....  that's when I said,  I NEED A NEW GPU that delivers the same for half the energy...and the 7800XT does exactly this.

Yeah, the downside is the cost of the GPU upfront but my 1080ti was aging anyway and sooner or later I would have been forced to replace it.

2000/ 8 months / 4 weeks / 7 days = You play a game for 9 hours every day?! And DCS in addition to that?!

I kinda got hooked to it while I tried to explain it to my 6 year old, that happens when you klick on " Free this week Only"   LoL.

But I was shocked too when I did the math from Steam logs and ingame logs per map...LoL.

There were days when it just kept running with me afk for hours, if you know FS22 and AD & CP you know what I mean...

Plowing 60 Ha takes some time man, it ain't done with Mach 1 .

Good thing it’s not easy to see all our hours on standalone DCS 😆 I broke my logbook at some point too.

I realized on one of these flight sim games I had more hours on it than the real WWI pilot whose book I read. That’s not hard really, those guys got thrown into it with very little practice.

They're getting up to towards 1 kW while running hard (about a 1 bar radiant heater)

What does it say 1 kWh of electricity is worth on your bill?

In NZ it's about $0.23 / kWh to residential customers.

Cheers.
