This may be the G2 replacement we've been waiting for

Too bad it has fresnel instead of pancake lenses, otherwise it looks good.

Will have to wait and see what the testers will say about it.

I was looking at this and saying wow maybe that will be my next HMD and then fresnel lenses. They don't really advertise that because it's not a selling point and they know it.

Why can't anyone just make a simple display port headset in the vein of the G2, with no motors, no batteries etc. Surely it would be cheaper and easier to develop and make and therefore faster to get to market and cheaper to sell. I think such a headset would sell like hot cakes.

Edit: Actually, I suppose the closest would be the Crystal Light.

Meta is selling at a loss, so the price is *probably* reasonable. Im sure it will fill some people's niche, not exactly mine though.

What makes you think they’re selling at a loss? They are the market leader by a long shot so they’re able to sell at a lower margin yet maintain their revenue target.

Its an official statement. And common strategy to subsidize hardware, when you have a store attached to recoup revenue. Same model for Playstation or Xbox.

To be fair, a per-eye resolution of 2448x2448, FOV of 120o, and DisplayPort connection are all advantages over the Quest 3.   Both have LCD displays.

I'm anxious for reviewers to get their hands on some units and report (curious about the size of the sweet spot, glare/God rays), but even if the DisplayPort cable is included at the $999 price point, it seems like a tough sell against an $899 Crystal Light with local dimming.   Pending positive reviews, a lower price it might make it a real option to consider.

I've not seen anything official on this. I have seen that some analysts concluded that the headsets are sold at a loss, but nothing official from Meta. Anyway, matters not.

This unit also has eye-tracking.   I hope somebody is able to try it in DCS with dynamic foveated rendering enabled.   Could significantly improve the frame rate, right?   Its advertised FOV is greater than the Crystal Light, and if I'm not mistaken the CL doesn't have eye-tracking?

Dying for some reviews.

After my initial skepticism I took another look at it on their website and for the price the specs look very good: 120°FOV, automatic ipd adjustment, Dynamic Foveated Rendering, colour stereo passthrough cameras, built in 3d audio speakers, hand tracking, good comfort and adjustment and most importantly, display port connection. Now I think it sounds like it has the potential to be a very good headset.

I couldn't find the launch date anywhere though?

I think it was 18th of October, in Sweden its possible to order it now from online shops, but I dont think nobody of the VR Tech Youtubers has actually tested it yet, certainly not for DCS, I find that a bit unusual.

Yes, I'm hoping to see some reviews of it before considering it.

With those specs and price AND assuming it works out of the box with far lower hardware/lens and software issues... this could be a very good sell vs. PCL.
I love the visuals of my PCL.. but I've had significant challenges with tracking.  G2 was ultra stable so clearly that can be done.  I wonder if HTC-Vive is big enough and reliable enough to manufacture with more consistency and provide fast/reliable customer service when needed.

$999 + $149 (or just $89 for DP cable) - - required for DP?, I can't actually tell which accessory is required.

Looking forward to the yt reviews.
