Windshield wipers, do they work?

Recommended Posts

Rotating the windshield wiper knob on the roof panel doesn't seem to do anything and I cannot find any other controls for them, is there any way to activate them? Rainy weather landings are hard!

None of the DCS modules currently have functioning wipers. Many of the modules have wipers that can be operated, but they do not affect the rain droplets on screen.

Properly functioning wipers would be nice to have in helicopters. Flying in rainy weather is hard without them.

I think the Apache and Hind have working wipers. But I don't know if they are bugged at the moment. Somebody said wipers are not working yet on the Chinook.
They work in Apache and Hind in the sense that they can be turned on and they are animated. They do not however remove rain droplets from the windshield.

They do indeed remove rain from the windshields in the AH-64D and Mi-24P.

The windshield wipers themselves don't appear to be implemented yet in the CH-47F.

EDIT: And of course the next logical question being What about the other DCS helicopters?, there are reports for adding similar visual wiper effects to the others (Ka-50, Mi-8, and UH-1). In fact, BigNewy inquired about this on users' behalf just a few days ago, so it is certainly on the radar.

Wow, since when is that implemented? It doesn't work for me in the Apache. Maybe because I'm in VR, or maybe I have to try to run a repair on the module.

It does work for me in the Apache in VR. It takes a little while for the effect to be seen tho.

just ran into this glaring issue with the Huey in the new campaign UN Peacekeeper. One mission is pouring rain and you can't see a damn thing

Gladly pay 10 bucks to get working wipers, living dudes in the back and fresh textures for the Huey and Mighty Eight.

Should work now with the latest patch

This is in the patch notes:

  • Added. Windshield wipers
  • Fixed. Wipers knob park position isn’t spring loaded

I tried to turn them on and they don't

I just jumped into an instant mission and they worked fine, you can turn the knob to the right to select 3 different speeds or rotate left for park

I've checked after cold start and in instant action, during rain and sun. Any speed, after park or after off, slow, med, fast - they dont move for me

Only thing i can think of is to check your generators are on, i tried with main generators while fully up and running and then also with apu generator after shutting down the engines and worked both times

OK, they work. They don't work for me because of some mod, don't know which one, but narrow it down to tree fix, caucasus textures and most likely - MH-47 mod

Why didn't you state it was modded earlier? Mods are known to break DCS in very weird ways, as you have discovered!
