Pilot models

Can we get a more diverse set of pilot models? Two of my left seaters were women when I served. My daughter often comes home and hops on the ah64 modules in between her vacations and when her temporary duty station brings her close here, and she pointed it out to me several times. I’m sure she’s not the only one. Also one of my buddies who I loved to fly with ( goes out to you WO3 Wolfe ) is black and he often chides me on it.

So, what’s up ED, when can we have that?

Guess it’s just relegated to a white male fantasyscape then . I remember reading that heatblur was looking into that.

There's two main issues in play here.
1. Most players don't play with the pilot body turned on so that they can see the controls and switches they need to.

2. The required amount of work to make a single character model is already tough enough when you consider the level of detail players demand (to the point where you can count the stitches on the uniform), rigging of the model, and the animations. And this would have to be done for every possible variation demanded.

One other factor in play is the fact that you barely see the aircraft you're shooting at, and you're not flying close enough in formation with another plane to see their pilots that well.

This all being said, would I like to see it? Sure. But compared to the laundry list of other things that the game needs.... this is pretty low on the priority list.

Totally fine to give your opinion @Tank50us, but these wild assumptions, based on.. well.. absolutely nothing.. are super annoying.

 

My 2 cents on the subject: Current pilot body models are just fine for me. As long as I have virtual body, legs and arms, it good for me

I only turn off the pilot body for a few seconds in a mission if at all. Copilot next to you is something different and never needs to be turned off.

To make another model version you only need a fraction of a full model job. Basically same textures and model overall except maybe hands and face.

The pilot body is very appreciated and needed for every aircraft and default typical one is more than fine for me. Other variations are nice to see but very low on my priority list and I certainly won't support such attitude: "Guess it’s just relegated to a white male fantasyscape then ."

According to the Navigraph survey 97.4% of flight sim players are male. So…

Character customization is a very cool feature in games today though.

Sure but let's leave the politics at the door. I don't think the average user wants different ethnicities in their pilot models, but female models (any ethnicity) is definitely something that would be great to have (HeatBlur already briefly showed us theirs for the F-4E) along with female voice-overs for contacting ATC/wingmen. In fact, years ago I started a thread asking for that very thing.

Nah, that’s played out/overused and incorrectly at that.

What would be the diversity / difference?

If you wear an uniform and a helmet (with visor) - how would you know if it is man or woman? The mustache or bust size?

If it is just the face, it should be easy to implement and replace the face with others - or better, let us import our own face image for the pilot model...
