As it stands the tracks are played as "first person". Can we just make them playable as traffic?
Have you tried pressing F2? If that doesn't work, it could be disabled in the mission file. Then you can rename trk to miz, open it in 7zip, open the mission file in Notepad++, save, save miz file, play. AND sometimes it's just a matter of starting DCS with TrackIR doabled. Go figure.

Hi, Max.

Sorry for the confusion. I'm not talking about views. I'm referring to being able to go fly another plane while a track plays in the background as AI traffic.

Oh! I see! I think that's actually doable though. Might requires some mission file editing tricks, but that's out of mu league . And, the AI will do what the AI do. You can't really force it like a script.

If you mean that you save a track after your flight and then make the AI to fly exactly the same as another aircraft in the next mission then no, it's not possible.

He can wish though. But I'm not sure how that's gonna work. All AI would be pretty much sitting ducks if they can't deviate and behave like AI.
I think OP is better off with the included AI airframes using RAT, and maybe add CAM and MAM.

There was little program that I enjoyed with other sims called FSRecorder, allowing to record your flights and then combine and replay all the tracks at the same time as you flew in a new session. I used it to fly formation in a more realistic way than what we can currently do by following AI, although the traffic was actually limited to the path of the recording, it actually was very immersive, provided you didn't mess up during the recording all flights followed real life procedures, even worked with carrier ops. Had different tracks of traffic according to wind direction in the event that one day we get realistic weather data online.

Just for clarity, it is just a piece of software that allows players to record all the traffic of a session or individually select/deselect what is recorded. The data can be replayed and customized at wish while flying a new session with all the tracks populating the virtual skies.

Since we are in a combat simulator even weapons would be recorded, while limited by removing the randomness of battles, it could be a very nice tool for video artists, for training purposes or simply to recreate a battle environment where the player must accomplish a specific task.

The other benefit I see to it is saving an enormous amount of AI calculations for units that are just spawned for environment purposes. The data base of all DCS players flight could be huge and tracks could be exchanged between players for mission building.

I just added it to the whish list

PS: The title of the topic is misleading, the tracks do not play as AI, they just play out following whatever pattern the player or the AI followed during the recording. The track can then be played in a new mission without adding any units to a new map, every unit that was recorded will populate (Air/Ground/Sea) back and the mission will replay with just the player being able to freely fly as the track playback.

Don't think it will work with the current setup. AI is AI. That's why you'd often find that every time you play a track it is different. It's a nice idea though, but I believe you need to wait until the new replay system dawns, then I absolutely see this happening!

Nice to hear ED continues improving the track replay function. FSRecorder allowed players to distinctively activate or deactivate every unit previously recorded, object simulated, tracks played without having to add any unit, therefore previously recorded AI just played back as a normal track (read AI was deactivated), however it was still possible to detect it on the radar and shoot it down, the software was smart enough to take over after the missile impact and play the AI falling off the skies in flames. The program was not designed for combat simulations and undoubtedly the integration process might be well too complex to merge with DCS, not forgetting the other priorities for such a complex project that has became DCS. I just thought I could expand on the initial request since it is a program I enjoyed and used extensively for training purposes. Anyways the DCS wish list length could circumnavigate the planet so, I won’t be putting too many expectations on the request, just nice to see our sim tech evolve over time.
