michael1982 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Hello everyone, I've just begun experimenting with Mixed Reality using Virtual Desktop and OpenKneeboard, and I'm thoroughly impressed by the immersive experience it offers. Setting it up was quite the learning curve, involving a lot of trial and error, but fortunately, there was a wealth of resources on YouTube that helped make it doable. One thing i coudnt figure out so far: Can anyone advise on how to eliminate the pink outline in OpenKneeboard? For those curious, I've recorded some of my Mixed Reality flying sessions to share. Thanks for browsing by and happy flying Michael 2
NAM Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 (edited) Well done, without purple boundaries.. I would have hard time to tell them apart. Edited October 7, 2024 by NAM 1
Maddaawg Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Can you change the color? 1 Meta Quest 3, Intel i9-10900K, EVGA 3080Ti FTW3, Corsair 64GB DDR4 3200, ASUS ROG Strix z-490-E Gaming, Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M2 NVME Windows 11 Drive, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB M2 NVME Game Drive
michael1982 Posted October 7, 2024 Author Posted October 7, 2024 I don't think I can change the color of the outline. I've tried multiple things, like blurring the edges of the underlying PNG or creating a dark background, but these methods only made the lines more visible.
nessuno0505 Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 Do you have MFD with screens? Are you able to clearly read the screens in the passthrough? Could it be possible to use the passthroug just for the frames, i.e. with the thrustmaster mfds, and use VR for the inner screens?

I've seen a similar response elsewhere but wasn't able to locate it: Try turning off header/footer in advanced settings, not just in the individual VR view settings If that fixes it, same problem as https://github.com/OpenKneeboard/OpenKneeboard/issues/658 If it’s actually specific to VD passthrough, and isn’t fixed by that, then yeah you need VD support AMD 7800x3D, 4080Super, 64Gb DDR5 RAM, 4Tb NVMe M.2, Quest 2
michael1982 Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 @nessuno0505 yes, i have mfd with winwing screens.. right out of the box you can barly read them, but with the program reshade you can make them a lot of brighter..i am also able to use the target pot to search for targets in passthrough mode.. you can mask out the screen itself too.. i tried that first, but the problem is the alignment of those screens... you will never get that even close.. and for example the winwing screens are a different size then the real one... @sleighzy thank you very much! yes that was me! i tried it out but it had now effect.. i figured out that is due the antialasing from VD.. if i oversample the output resolution it is getting better, but it never disappears.. i will try out diffrent masks with blured edges if i can get rid of the outline
violator_au Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 How to png for vr.pdfI have just started mixed reality and found it hard to find information on what to do. I made this file to so I could help other people like me with no idea. yep noobing it up. This is directed at Opeenkneeboard and virtual desktop, which i run through a pico 4. I hope this helps. This example is for the start of my f18 simpit i will be making, but for the passthrough for the first lot of instruments coming for this slow build. 1
scuba82 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 (edited) I've tried to use another (dark) color for the passthrough square, in hope to have at least a "not so visible" dark border around my passthrough area. However that didn't work since other, similar dark colors got transparent too. Now I noticed that there is a "similarity" ruler within the visual desktop passthrough configuration. My assumption is that not only the definded RGB value gets replaced by the passthrough overlay but a range of colors controlled by the similarity ruler.(?) Turning the ruler all the way to 0 didn't work at all in my initial tests (nothing got transparent) but I'm going to test some other combinations later. Update: Seems as that my suggestion works. The color of the passthrough are is R:5,G:5, B:5 and similarity is turned to 1÷ Edited December 17, 2024 by scuba82 Update
violator_au Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Good luck. I think i'll stick with a pink border, but will look into see if you have any luck.
rmm Posted January 1 Posted January 1 (edited) Wow, what a ton of work it must have been to create this pdf. I just got virtual desktop a couple days ago and was wondering about this feature. Look forward to giving it a try. Thank you. This is a great thread. Hope it continues. Edited January 1 by rmm
