my question is : how do i distinguish the friendly + enamy units?

because i allways shot my friendly units and i dont want to play with lables to make the game more realistc

thanks in advance.

in most campaign missions you can see the border line on the abris map that designates friendly/enemy territory. when you use the shkval to line up a target, you'll see where on the map you are viewing. typically, if the unit is across the border in enemy territory, fire away.

another trick, if you are not sure friend or foe, is to select the target in question and command your wingman to attack the target. he'll reject your command if its friend.

of course, situational awareness is much preferred.

i agreed with you all but During the battel the enemy & friendly units gets kind of mixed and there should be another way to make sure using like IFF system or there should be F or X shows in the HUD if the unit is friendly one

Unfortunately, that is what it is like in real life. You have to positively ID a target with a mark 1 eyeball to avoid blue-on-blue incidents.

IFF is being introduced for ground vehicles, but it is in early stages of development/deployment.

See http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/bcis.htm

Problem is, can you be sure all own forces in the area are equipped with IFF (BCIS).

Another realistic method:

1.) make a photo of the threat (best the silhouette) => in BShark: full zoom with skhval and make a screenshot

2.) i think every pilot knows the vehicle-silhouettes and its proper real-life-counterpart-vehicle => in BShark: look in the pdf-encyclopedia (there is a pdf-encyclopedia for free download of all DCS:BS-units except buildings) during the flight or during pause.

This works not if the opponets uses the same vehicles as your side.

I made a series of missions that were made for Target ID purposes with both red and blue armor and vehicles. Each mission has one type of vehicle, 2 vehicles, set at different angles. I did a quick search but couldn't find it but if you search the missions message board you should be able to find it.

Send me an e-mail and I would be happy to send the ZIP file with the missions to you.
