Wags' New "Oil War" Campaign

Recommended Posts

Just finished Chapter Three and I have to say the tweaks really improved the playability. If you previously found the campaign to be a bit frustrating you might consider playing through the new version.

Thanks for the update Wags!

(P.S. In case you missed it, the updated campaign was released separately from the upcoming patch and is available in the "Files" link on the DCS front page.)

I just tried one mission that I couldn't finish before, whatever I tried to do it was impossible and now I completed it with 90% score. That's awesome. I will restart the oil campaign for sure.

I like that some missions now are starting with 50% score. Its easiest to accomplish your objectives and its also more logical in defensive missions.

Do you just copy all files into the "mission" folder or over write them in the campaign folder?

Backup your existing ones just in case and over write the ones in the campaign folder.

The campaign begins in Northern Georgia with Chapter 1 and continues south through victory at the end of Chapter 3. The Grand Campaign groups all three into one campaign. It's a little easier completing one at a time.

The change enough thinks to make the missions more realistic like the attack and defense missions now are starting with 50% score!! This is the most obvious change but there others not so obvious.

Off the top of my head, changes made include:

- Various identified scripting errors fixed

- Player killed point penalty removed

- Cold start on missions that do not have fixed timing issues

- Vista warning removed

- Mission titles based on mission type removed to avoid confusion

- All offensive missions now are rated between 51 and 100 to provide more random mission assignment due to players always trying to max score at 100

- Force on force missions now start player at 50 pts.

- Radar SAMs in third chapter removed.

- Recon zones increased to 3,000 meters

- AD systems at route points have less chance of appearing now.

O.K., after playing this new oil war campaign, I have noticed something that I dislike (and I didn't notice it in the default campaign); in many campaign missions two AI Ka-50s spawn (in briefing screen one is called Wags). They usually have a head start so they arrive at targets before me and destroy most targets before I arrive there. If I hurry me and my wingman manage to destory left-overs. I have attached one log file as an eample.

Now, Wags, why did you put yourself (as a Superman) in the campaign?

Is it just on my rig or the "the fly last mission" but that after a mission that didn't turn out right is greyd out?? If I crash, or get crashed in the the new campaign, the option to re-try the mission again is not avail anymore:cry:

So, as I understand it, I should replace the current Georgian Oil War campaign with the one in the files section?

How do I do so?

Also, I was wondering: what is the difference between the GOW campaign and the Oil War 1-2-3 campaigns? Are they different, or is it the main campaign split up in various parts?

If you install the latest patch you don't need to do this, the campaign is updated threw the patch.

What you said it's true, main GOW split in 3 parts.
