Windows 7 RC / Feedback for BS Performance

Ok, I was going to load W7 RC this weekend and do some benchmarking comparing it with Vista 64, much like I did with W7 Beta. I spent hours upon hours getting tweeked out, setup etc. I decided, before I actually put in the time, I would like some feedback from those who already have W7 RC installed and running. Is it worth it? W7 Beta did not (in my bench marks anyway) have any advantage over Vista, matter of fact the FPS were lower. I read some other threads about problems with the affinity tool on the 64 bit platforms, and he is still working on a fix. So does anyone have any input on this subject?

Im sure, and I hope your correct. What have you noticed in FPS gain over Vista 64, compared to W7 RC 64, and have you managed to get the affinity tool to use 4 cores without any difficulty?

W7 is the better operating system, simple.

True.

Fakum,

I don't have any data saved for comparison. I went straight from XP to Win7 so I have no comparisons to Vista.

I will say thus far BS runs perfectly smooth for me in Win7x64 at 5040x1050 on a single GTX285. I haven't messed with the affinity tool but I haven't felt like I need to.

One thing that may also increase your performance is that several new video drivers have been released for Win7RC since the days of the beta. Although I'm still using 182.50 because I have to for 5040x1050.

Thats good to hear. I would suggest doing a quick FPS, then run the affinity script anyway. You may like what you see now, but you make like what you see even more, unless of course your FPS is already running at your monitors refresh rate. I like your feedback, and thank you for taking the time,,,

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, my preliminary results are in for Vista Ultimate 64 vs. W7 RC 64.

What I have set up is one hard drive / 3 partitions, each with their own operating system.

Conditions were:

-Affinity Script running except as noted

-BlackSharkTutorial01.miz map loaded (this can be downloaded as it is not a default map)

-Track IR = Off

-Cougar HOTAS= Disconnected

-Nvidia control settings were set equally on both Operating systems.

-Game options were set equally on both Operating systems

-Game graphic settings were equally set

-Game resolution set at 2560 x 1600

-Windows Vista Nvidia driver = 186.18

-Windows 7 RC Nvidia driver = 186.18

-Note Forcing Vsync on or off showed no FPS differences in my testing

-FPS read from cockpit view and external (F2) view at time of 300.000

FPS as follows:

Vista Nvidia settings at “Performance” Setting: 45 Cockpit / 66-69 External FPS

W7 RC Nvidia settings at “Performance” Setting: 44 Cockpit / 65-68 External FPS

W7 RC (Affinity Script OFF) Nvidia settings at “Performance” Setting: 26 Cockpit / 39-41 External FPS

Vista Nvidia settings at “Balanced” Setting: 44-45 Cockpit / 64 External FPS

W7 RC Nvidia settings at “Balanced” Setting: 44 Cockpit / 55-58 External FPS

W7 RC (Affinity Script OFF) Nvidia settings at “Balanced” Setting: 27 Cockpit / 39-40 External FPS

Vista Nvidia settings at “Quality” Setting: 35-36 Cockpit / 67-69 External FPS

W7 RC Nvidia settings at “Quality” Setting: 43-44 Cockpit / 64-67 External FPS

W7 RC (Affinity Script OFF) Nvidia settings at “Quality” Setting: 26 Cockpit / 39-41 External FPS

* Note that I have not done any flying yet, this was all done at the air field, on the ground so all test platforms would be equal. I expect the FPS will stand for them selfs. This has been a much better result then my previous results http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=39823 testing Win 7 Beta. Hope this is helpful.
