It's my rather primitive understanding that the wings must fit into the supersonic shock cone of the aircraft - but I may have that wrong. If that is the case, then the length of the wing is limited by the cone, otherwise you create extra drag. I think.

However! There's a more reliable list of advantages and disadvantages:

here's another article (sort of interesting):

Yes, forward swept wings have their own problems.

They have to be reinforced to stay in place or else the weight and aerodynamic forces might result in wing flex up and backwards and get ripped off from the fusealge in an instant.

Weapons carieage in those wings also poses a problem.

yeah, but what about...?

hmmm... nice discussion here of forward-swept wings, but is there anymore info on Russian stealth planes? such as:

http://www.defenceaviation.com/2008/01/su-pakfa-a-russian-stealth-fighter.html

and this: http://righttruth.typepad.com/right_truth/2006/05/the_new_russian.html

and here's a site I've never seen before:

interesting read. nice claims too, but it would be nice if that system could be tested, and the claims borne out. But then again, I always suspect any claims I read about unproven military capability, no matter where the claims come from. For that matter, I never blindly believe anyone's media either!;)

always question.
