Since patching, I can't refly any campaign missions. If I start a mission and either exit straight away, get killed, complete it 100% or 0% or anything in between, I do not have the option to refly the mission. In effect, I don't have to successfully complete a mission before moving onto the next.

Is anyone else having this problem?

I'm using XP 32bit, I have done a complete reinstal and patch, and I'm still having this issue.

If I fly a single mission, I have the option to refly it afterwards.

I believe this is how the campaign is supposed to be.

ie. you cant just redo the mission till you are successful but rather new missions are presented according to your success/failure

To INVENT an Airplane is Nothing.

To BUILD One is Something.

But to FLYis EVERYTHING.

Before the patch, you had to achieve a certain amount of success, or achieve certain goals before you could move on to the next mission. This is similar to LOMAC and FC.

No, you didn't - depending on the campaign of course - but the idea is you will move a phase back if you don't accomplish your goals, a stage forward if you do. People would refly missions instead of accepting a legitimate loss on their part.

Pardon my French, but this change sucks. This situation Andyfoot is talking about is the same thing I asked about in http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=44114 I don't like it, not one bit. I prefer the world of the campaign over just flying individual missions, in that it has something of a story, a progression, mildly more cool than just flying individual missions, but geeze, the op-for is quite on the ball sometimes, so I get my butt blown up, ... so I want to fly that again, not go back, but ... but why?!?!? Why is it important to the programmers that I really, "legitimate"ly win/loose? Sure, if this were a test to get my wings for the Russian Army, yea, no "cheating", but this "game"/"simulation" is for my enjoyment, and one of the things I enjoy most is "damn you, tank-hidden-behind-a-hill, I'll get you this next time". I mean, sure, I understand that a "real" pilot has no such 2nd chance, but really! Are you afraid that when I complete the entire campaign (at my v1.0 rate that would take another year or so) and I start bragging on the forum, that players to had "legitimate" success would be slighted? huh? Unless you're planning to provide an easy/medium/hard option for the AI's on-the-ball-ness, please replace the ability to refly campaign missions. please. thank you.

I agree with you a bit Beerman, it does seem harsh but... Have you tried the old 'ctrl-alt-delete' out into the task manager before the debrief loads? Pain in the arse to reload but keeps the last mission 'I think'. That said I haven't checked my number of deaths yet!

I haven't tried the Ctrl-Alt-Del thing, but that's not the point. I play this for fun, and for a challenge. I love the game to bits, and I've certainly put in some hours/got my moneys' worth. But one of the aspects I enjoyed was as Beers said, "damn you tank... I'll get you next time". I know they are striving for realism, and a balance of enjoyment, but in irl, your wingman would not do some of the stupid things the AI do (like hover over an AA site whilst he lines up for an attack).

What makes this game so lasting with me is my determination to complete every mission in the campaign successfully. Sometimes I just refly a mission because I enjoyed it so much. Having to sometimes refly a mission several times also means it takes quite some time to work through a campaign. Having it where I can start a mission and have to exit the game (like HM Wife telling me my meal is getting cold) really sucks when it means I then move onto the next mission.

Something for my wishlist in the next patch, then, will be to reinstate the refly option.

Have you guys tried backing up your campaign before you fly a mission? I do not have it in front of me (so I can't point you to the exact file), but it is quite easy to just copy the file before you fly a mission. Then if you die, just copy the file back and voila, you are back like it never happened. I know that worked fine in 1.0, so maybe worth trying in 1.01.

If they want to, why not? I believe it's better to offer users as much freedom of choice as possible, as long as it is not critical for storytelling or overly complex. I don't think this is the case here. Obviously people are finding and using workarounds anyway.

Have you tried backing up you're wife and/or dinner? I'm not sure which the file is but it'll be there somehwere...

My groundcrew, ahem, I mean Mrs is always making my dinner at inopportune moments.

Haven't tried backing up my wife, wish I could roll back to a "pre-patched" version though!

I might try the backing up Campaign file workaround, thanks fox.

rather not settle for a work-around. I'm really hoping someone can tell us "just change setting XYZ in the ULA". come on, anyone? Beuler?

Hmm, got to say that I find this curious. The campaign simulates a career in wartime. In war you don't always win and you cannot just safe and refly. That's what makes the campaign special. If you just want to complete all missions 100%, why not fly the single-missions? You can repeat those as often as you like? And you even get points and medals, even if you fly the same mission 100 times.

Backing up the file is really not that difficult, and is a pretty good workaround. If people want I can probably quickly put together a batch file to back it up automatically before each mission...

that would be nice to have, though that my self too but its been long time since I have laid my hands on those, perhaps better that I don't

And I also think that this change was a bit harsh, I am having enough troubles flying the ka-50 back to base every time, and now that A.I has become one terminator machine + my own mistakes, I am actually making negative progress yay! This is a simulation yea, but it does not mean it cant be enjoyable unless your lucky, or just plain good at it (witch I am not). And IMO, to say "this is the way it was meant to be" is not really that good statement, as this cant possibly been that hard to apply to relase version, this was change, not correction what is was supposed to be, in my opinion at least....

ahh, its been long time I have vented some steam out I see, no offense meant to anyone, just had to let loose some pressure... :noexpression:

On one hand I do like the back-and-forth of the missions. It makes it feel like a real wartime "front" as I take two steps forward, then get knocked one step back by a counteroffensive of sorts.

On the other, I really just want to progress through them. Each mission takes a while and I'd prefer not to have to redo two missions instead of just the one I failed. Quite frankly, my gaming time is precious and I really can't waste it redoing things I've already completed.

For instance, I just attempted The Other Side mission - the one where you need to start climbing immediately to get over mountains near the target. That is a long, slow, arduous mission. The target is a long ways away and you're moving so slowly since you're fighting for altitude. Even the briefing says it'll take an hour to reach the target. I lost two of my four wingmen in the firefight, and was almost done mopping everything up. At the last moment I freaking overstressed my helicopter maneuvering and smacked my own rotorblades together. So stupid and frustrating.

But guess what? I backed up my logbook .lua file. I can just go back and redo that single mission, instead of having to work through the one before it first.

When I did the Deployment campaign, I would always get a message Mission Complete when it was complete. But Georgian Oil War campaign so far Ive flown 2 missions. 1st one I was shot down after killing some dudes and the second one I killed everything and made it back to base. Neither one gave a mission complete message but both times the campaign advanced and it says I have 100% completion. Am I just supposed to guess when its ok for me to rtb and hope the objectives were complete?

Good suggestion Feuerfalke. Let's hope the OP picks up on it!
