REL Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 (edited) Is there "buy online and download" option ? Edited March 4, 2010 by REL
Ali Fish Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 (edited) think its available on steam when released. Fantastic sim/game. and i really mean that. runs very very well, nicely optimised.W7e, i7950 3.3g, gtx280, 3gig ram. Being a human character in a machine makes all the difference. Atmosphere has been dramaticly increased in this sub series, also the chracterisation of the player has opened a door to some interesting narrative possibilities not usually seen within simulation games. Hope other sim devs take note...... I have spent about 2 hours in the sub so far on the first mission which is effectivly a intro tutorial. so ive not expereinced much of it yet. but it has all the hallmarks of a bloody great game. the game updated automaticly. ubi application that you login to was fine , no problems. the only thing i noticed was a slight pause for a milisecond every now and then, and i cant be sure that was the new DRM playing havoc. but its not a worry and didnt detract my attentions from what i was doing. one thing thats apparent to me is that when the modders get stuck into this, its going to be very very special... element1108 Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 That first person bit would be cool to implement in a flight combat sim. Locker room, sleeping quarters, briefing room etc. Walking to and from the aircraft as well. Obviously that would take a lot of work, but I do agree it would have an interesting impact on the gameplay. Keep the details coming Ali ;)
diveplane Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 screenies from me playing, really is great visuals http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/7144/sh52010030410372728.jpg http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/7530/sh52010030410561089.jpg http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/315/sh52010030411131803.jpg http://img532.imageshack.us/img532/1596/sh52010030411145626.jpg http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/434/sh52010030411224939.jpg http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/4634/sh52010030411171462.jpg http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/7162/sh52010030411415942.jpg https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
diveplane Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 (edited) still a lot of bugs even after 1.1 patch. nvidia users are suffering quite a bit of performance drop. and shadow problems workaround for now is turning off dynamic shadows. all been noted to dev team, hopefully a patch will address many problems. all in good time this will be a winner. diveplane Posted March 4, 2010 Author Posted March 4, 2010 Is there a multiplayer option? yep, via ubi servers or lan mode. lan mode is the best using peer to peer software called tunngle. https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Ali Fish Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) Actually, now that the having a new toy style fun is over. here we have a very promising sub sim thats half complete. half complete in just above out every area. the most annoying aspect are the missing key commands. Just about half are missing. currently the modders are putting together these key commands for simple stuff such as depth under keel etc. they forgot the return to course options too !! WTF.. Geez this is one screwed up release by ubisoft. phenominaly bad release. I have faith and time to wait untill its finished though, then it will be very special. i really mean it when i say ubisoft should have beta tested this product. thats how bad it really is.... now theres talk about them deliberatly doing this in relation to there cracked DRM. And it being another ploy to keep the pirates at bay. very strange stuff indeed .... Edited March 5, 2010 by Ali Fish 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
element1108 Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 (edited) That's too bad, I was reading up on the Silent Hunter 5 forums and most people were screaming bloody murder. Most were on topic with what you're talking about Ali Fish. A few were saying having to walk through in the sub to give all your orders can be really annoying in the thick of it. No Compass? Really? That's really too bad, but I was considering this title, but looks like I'll wait. Thanks for the feedback Ali Fish. Someone made a good point on their forums. The way to keep piracy low is to include wonderful materials such as spiral bound detailed manuals or a hardcopy of a map of operations (Rise of flight did this) and a nice keyboard chart. I know this adds cost into the mix, but it seems with most "simulators" people are willing to pay a little extra for things like this. I'll go out on a limb and say I'd happily pay more money for a "simulator" simply because the hours of entertainment it will serve me. Most simmers will go out and buy a new rig just to run their $49 game...plus $300 hotas and $150 tracker IR. It's not like a new sim releases every 3 months. Edited March 5, 2010 by element1108
Feuerfalke Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 Actually you don't have to run through the boat in the middle of a fight. That's pure nonsense unless you want to talk to those officers about their families and other personal stuff. You can access all critical skills from any stations, including overstressing engines, rigging for silent running, etc. Of course you CAN do that speaking to them personally, but it is not NECESSARY. Yes, the compass is missing, as well as a direct rudder control. But instead you have a "minimap" - overview that allows you to select all these actions manually. And of course, you have working compass e.g. on the bridge. Long story short: the HUD is minimized, because you have other ways to access actions. From the coning tower you can very well control the complete ship in all situations. IMHO the downside is, that it's more realistic. Yes, sounds silly, but that's what it is. In other releases you could man FlaK and gun, operate the firing-computer manually. No Kaleun would have done so in reality and you cannot do that 1st-person-like or via HUD any longer. A loss in things to do, no loss in realism. Ali Fish Posted March 5, 2010 Posted March 5, 2010 to some degree i agree with what feuerfalke is saying, arguing realism is a no no here though given the lack of attention in many areas. i remeber in a vid one of the devs telling us that the modders will be very happy, with unexpected things to enjoy etc etc. Finishing a game for a corporate monster though, thats a bit over the top. Ali Fish Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 (edited) ive come to the conclusion that this release state of silent hunter isnt all as bad as maybe some have made out, i think it comes down to what our expectations for whats coming next in a long running series coupled with there expereince in the previous sims. The only thing at fault here is the deliverance of whats new and different from the last iteration, no explanation, no documentation, the frequency of the bugs together with everything else has led to a very confused community in the belief they arnt getting what they expected. however the end outcome of all this will be a fantastic new take on an old genre, and a classic worthy addition to any subsim fans game collection. i made a lil video. Feuerfalke Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 Agreed. Many things are new and a lot of things deserved a "How To", but the release is not as bad as some people scream. Don't know, maybe I'm just happy we don't have the number x clone of SilentHunter back from the 80s, with the same GUI, options and gameplay. I found this new approach very refreshing. I like it. Ali Fish Posted March 6, 2010 Posted March 6, 2010 indeed it is quite refreshing, i personally like learning new things, in terms of this new way of things being potentially more dynamic its possible for sure, but on the other hand though its apparent just how restrictive it is. If I the captain wana shout for a depth under keep reading from the observation deck theres no way to do it. so i will be looking forward to having the best of both worlds in this sim with the mods. especially the TDC's return graphically... i dont understand why we cant have a cruiser ship controllable in this. not as part of the singleplayer but multiplayer in a smallish arena would be really really good fun. dropping depth charges the simple inclusion of above water tactics. hope it happens in this sim. diveplane Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 my audio mod and download here, enjoy all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIN5RHeL8B8 https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.

Hm, don't know. When I dive and evade and depth under keel becomes important, I'm usually in the central, not on the bridge, so that's no problem for me. I rarely put my boat in so swallow water it becomes critical for navigation. What I don't understand, is, why they release the 5th version of their simulation and have still not entered the most critical items on the map, like water depths and known minefields areas. diveplane Posted March 7, 2010 Author Posted March 7, 2010 all the commands are still in the game, just a lot have been left out or not finished and added into the new interface. few mods coming out that replace the missing commands like depth under keel etc. https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
Ali Fish Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 Today im trying to play but ubisoft just wont allow it, connection issues, my friend who has cracked his version is playing fine. unbelievable ! i tried to be understanding of this new DRM, alas it has bitten me.. it hurts. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
GhostDog Posted March 7, 2010 Posted March 7, 2010 The modders are already doing astounding things with this release. I'd much rather pay them than Ubisoft, because they're the only reason I'll still consider buying this game after OSP finishes crashing and burning. REL Posted March 8, 2010 Posted March 8, 2010 Is it me? Or every time Silent hunter title is coming out is seems like they manage to complete just part of the work and the game have a lot of bugs and unimplemented content … And on top of all they had to put DRM as the cherry on the cake .
