MBot
Provide helicopter escort for a pair of Dutch Chinooks. Includes a SP and MP version for 2 players. Number and position of threats you encounter during your escort are randomized. Perhaps you fly through hell, perhaps you don't meet any threat at all, but you certainly have to be on your guard. Reaction times are short and to engage threats quickly enough to protect your Chinooks can be tricky. Perhaps you already fulfill your escort job if you draw away any fire from the transports while they evade. Most importantly, keep up with them and don't fall to the temptation to hunt after enemies your Chinooks already left behind. Hope you enjoy! http://cid-f33d8b1019e6f4ac.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Public/ChinookEscort.zip (left click) Oh, and sorry to our Dutch members for my painful attempts to speak English like a Dutchman :) Sitrep: Russia and NATO continue their joint GFOR peace keeping operations in Georgia. Insurgents opposing the newly established Georgian government and GFOR presence are controlling the mountains north of Kutaisi. Task: Your task today is a helicopter escort mission for a troop insertion near Tsageri. Your callsign is 'Shark 4'. Two Dutch Chinook transporters, callsign 'Oranje 6', are already on their way to pick up a Georgian spec-ops platoon from Senaki AB. Meet 'Oranje 6' at the assembly area (AA), then escort them to the landing zone (LZ) and back out of the enemy held territory. Threats expected along your route are ZU-23 AAA and possibly MANPADS. Since the operation is unknown to the enemy, no opposition is expected at the LZ. Callsign of mission control is 'Overlord'. Good luck.

sharkforce
just flew the whole mission , impressive though we were never attacked through the whole flight :( edit: i know the enemy placements are random so I'll try it again another time :p Edited August 24, 2009 by sharkforce MSI Z170A G45, 32 GB DDR 4, 1080ti, I7 6700k, Trackir5, Warthog HOTAS. Rhino4
Just tried it. Got to the drop-off point without incident. On the way back we were ambushed, and I took fire from hills to my left. Managed to draw their fire and then sped after the chinooks which escaped without a hit. I didn't bother to engage, but ordered my wingman to engage ground targets while I continued escorting. Overall, a very immersive flight. I liked the valleys we flew through. I liked the speed. I liked the randomness of not knowing if we would be attacked or not. More radio chatter would be nice. Have the escorted choppers radio in their speed and altitude (would have been handy). Have your wingman radio in to remind you that friendly forces were attacked last week by insurgents in that town just up ahead...You get the idea. I was busy flying escort so I didn't take the time to see, but do the choppers actually drop off troops? I didn't see any appear when they landed...But like I said, I was distracted. Going to fly it again and see what pops up. Thanks for a great mission and give some thought to broadening your usage of comms....
MBot
Thanks for the feedback. Yes the Chinooks actually drop off troops. They go into a low hover over the mountain for about 1 minute, drop the troops and go on. The new Remove Group trigger is pretty neat, you can do hold type waypoints with it. Make it the last waypoint you want a unit to hold, then remove the unit with a trigger and replace it with a new one that goes on.
Killin Duck
Hi, Just tested the MP. We really liked the random activation off threats. 1st time, my teammate and I were downed. 2nd time I was downed and on 3rd try we managed to accomplish the mission and I had the opportunity to destroy 2 threats. Yes, the key is to stay with Chinooks, but... I can hardly fight "target fascination" :) The radio comms are also pretty cool, as it add a lot of realism. Thanks for your work. Triangle99
Just a quick, newb question - with an escort mission like this, would the Ka-50s fly ahead, behind or alongside the Chinooks? miguez
Flew this last night for the first time, and loved it, well done! What I appreciate the most are the units not involved with the mission, i.e. the FA-18s, the C-130, the Apache, that really increases the immersion. Both Chinooks made it, but one was shot up pretty bad. ED did a phenomenal job with the damage models, a piece of the Chinook's fuselage was missing, and you can see clear through it to the inside of the cabin, amazing! Here are some screenshots: The Apache enroute. This is one of the best 3D models in BS! On our way back, one of the Chinooks shot up A close up of the shot up Chinook Close to home turf, over friendly territory, with the Chinooks now behind us. The Apache back on the ground, parked next to my wingman A Photoshopped (to add depth of field) image of one of the FA-18s Finally, a short video showing the amazing damage model on the Chinook (if you don't already have it, you will need the XVID codec) Open video. Thanks for a great mission! Edited October 17, 2009 by miguez

Skkuda
Triangle99 wrote Just a quick, newb question - with an escort mission like this, would the Ka-50s fly ahead, behind or alongside the Chinooks?I flew this mission three times at this point (Lovely mission by the way) the first time I flew behind the chinooks but too close to them that when we received the enemy fire I was too close to the enemy and I cant return fire. Luckily every time we took fire nothing happens and we accomplish the mission. The second time I was shoot down in same situation. But the third one I let the chinooks fly lets say 1500m ahead of me and I get a truly panoramic view and I can shoot few enemies. Dont know if it is the correct way but It works for me. By the way Its just me or the machine gunners in the chinooks do not return fire under attack? Distiler
WoW very nice mission! the most impressive stuff is the deactivate/activate groups! I was wondering in the middle of the mission "how the heck those Chinooks waited me and departed just when I arrived?" loool when I saw the triggers I was like totally WTF! very well done! thou we really need some easier way to make units wait/stop and continue due some trigger condition. TAIPAN_
Just finished it, was never engaged but destroyed a Zu-33 emplacement. I spotted him only 3km out, but he never engaged me. There was a manpad next to him who also never engaged. With the deactivated groups, are they still visible on the map? Was this an inactive group I saw? Nice mission by the way, the radio is cool as well as the other activity going on makes it seem real.
