bonesvf103 Posted October 10 Posted October 10 In the last week or so I have experienced that an SA-5 missile has hit me and I never knew it was there because the RWR never gave a missile launch warning. My RWR was on; I can tell because I can hear the SA-5 spiking me and I can see all the radar indications in the RWR. Shouldn't there be a launch warning when the SA-5 launches since it is a SARH missile? I actually thought I was hit by an SA-18 since there was no warning, but the log showed it was definitely an SA-5. Here is video. At 3:30 you can hear me being spiked, so I know the RWR was on. Skip to 17:34, and you can see the moments before I'm hit, there is no warning and at 18:06 in the log you can see it was confirmed an SA-5. This happened a couple of times before in the last 2 weeks both to me and to another player. v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. MnMailman Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Had the same thing happen to me recently but with an sa-11.
Koty Posted October 17 Posted October 17 While it's probably unintentional, that's more realistic than otherwise. S-200's tracking radar does not change the emissions in any way when it launches a missile, it's always just a solid CW signal, with subtle changes in polarity as the operator manually ranges you. Word on the street is though that it should give you a solid launch warning when tracked instead. 2
MnMailman Posted October 17 Posted October 17 (edited) In my case, there was never even an sa-11 indication on the rwr let alone a launch warning. Edited October 17 by MnMailman

MeanJim Posted October 24 Posted October 24 I did a quick test in SP, and I get a launch warning for the SA-5 and SA-11 in both the F/A-18 and F-16. I wonder if desync in MP can cause you to not get a launch warning.

I should try it in SP and see what happens. v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. bonesvf103 Posted November 10 Author Posted November 10 (edited) I just flew a mission SP, and had it happen several times. Wroblowaty Posted November 13 Posted November 13 SA-19 is optically guided, it will not give you RWR launch warning.

Well, sure but I would have to have an SA-5 there to shoot at me. Plus I wanted to put the actual track of when it happened live, not one that I orchestrate to happen (by making a Caucasus mission and purposely putting an SA-5 there). The track file is meant for ED to check out/troubleshoot who of course have Iraq, not really the players. If the players don't have the Iraq map, then they can watch the video I linked if they want to watch it. v6, boNes "Also, I would prefer a back seater over the extra gas any day. Muchocracker Posted Wednesday at 06:39 PM Posted Wednesday at 06:39 PM The devs specifically want tracks to be made on caucasus. 1

I also watched your video, and it didn't help me understand what actually hit you, since there's no external view (a tacview track would have been better in that case). You could have been hit by a stray missile. We have no idea. All we know is that your RWR was powered on. Sure, the track is meant for ED, but the forum has many experienced players who have more hours playing around with the Hornet, and can provide answers very quickly. It does not hurt to provide a track everyone can load. 2
