GVAW was formed by two Grumpy Old Vets who were looking for something different. We thoroughly enjoy DCS and making custom missions/campaigns to learn different skills and test that knowledge on the battlefield. We are looking for dedicated Virtual Pilots to conquer the skies and learn from each other.

I (Grumpy) am a retired Army Sergeant First Class with deployments to Iraq, Kosovo, and Latvia. I also spent eight years in the Navy which included four years aboard the USS Eisenhower, during Desert Storm/Shield and four at the Joint Intelligence Center Pacific in Hawaii. Curly is an Air Force Veteran and was an F-16 Crew Chief and has deployed to Iraq.

What sets us apart from the other groups? First, we understand that people spend a lot of money on modules and do not want to be tied to a single aircraft to be part of a squadron. We want you to be proficient in at least one module for campaigns but you can fly what ever you want based on the mission. Second, we understand that everyone has their own personality and we want to match pilots up that get along and not force you into a flight of conflicting personalities.

We have two dedicated servers: one for training and one for operations. We offer training on the F-16 Viper, F-18 Hornet, and A-10 Warthawg. We also dabble in the C-130, F-15E, Apache, Chinook, and Huey.

We are looking for dedicated virtual pilots that have the time and means to commit to a group of like minded individuals and have a crap load of fun. We understand that life happens but at the same time it takes a lot of effort to build missions and campaigns and need dedicated members to ensure success. We want leaders that can take charge of a squadron and wingmen that just want to fly.

Recruits that meet the minimum requirements will be assigned a Flight Lead who will run them through a check ride to get a baseline of their skills, and take note of where they need work. We will train those with a good work ethic and willingness to put in the work on their own time. DCS is not a game per se, it is a complicated flight simulator and takes a long time to master. We all have lives to live and don't want to waste our time on training if you are not committed. We don't care if you are part of other squadrons as long as you are putting the time in with ours. If you are burned out or need a break for work or family we will put you into reserve status as long as you check in once in a while.

Once you pass training you will be able to take part in our official campaigns. You will also be eligible for advanced training such as a Flight Lead, Instructor Pilot, Aggressor, etc.

We will run campaigns from around September to early May and foothold or individual missions in the summer allowing folks to spend time with their families. Times generally run from 1900-2100 CST but we can be flexible based on time zones.

We will also be looking for small groups to liaise with to fill larger missions.
