That’s what should happen as long as the target is re-acquired prior to the track being dropped. Once it’s been dropped, however, a new TWS session has to be initiated. So we’ll have to see what happens after the update. Plus, that goes against how I’ve come to understand SNP/TWF functioning. I think you, like myself have done, are not remembering the details correctly. Assuming that ED’s assertion that the behavior the OP observed is “correct as is” and that’s a pretty safe assumption, this is my new understanding of how it works. SNP/TWF, with one exception, can track only one target per session. If the target is lost, nothing will happen until a new session is started. A new session is started by either toggling the TWF/FHS switch down and back to TWF, using “Break lock—depress”, manually or automatically entering STT (continuous bearing mode) which drops you out of the TWF session and into a different radar mode (assuming you haven’t moved the TWF/FHS switch, you start a new session of TWF when STT is dropped), or pressing “Reset(?)”. The exception to the above is “TDC—depress”. In this case the session continues but the system waits for you to manually designate a new strobe for it to follow. That’s why, if you press it but don’t hold it down until the target is captured, nothing happens. It won’t capture the original strobe. Nor will it capture any other strobe. It’s dumped the original target track and waiting for you to point it so that it can develop a new one. Anyway, that’s my current understanding based on ED’s declaration and my own observations. You are absolutely right, that's how I understand it. My only doubt was whether when the STT is interrupted, the TWF remains active or not. I have not had a situation where I can wait for it to start tracking a new target, I have already done the strobing manually. I have already said that if the tracking of one target is interrupted, you have to manually hold down the button, set the TDC to the new target and wait for it to increase by 1.5x, that is a sign that it has switched to tracking that target. "I would love to see a track of this “for awhile” happening." That for awhile doesn't happen because I immediately manually select another target 8 hours ago, AeriaGloria said: I’ll try to watch more carefully but I feel like I’ve seen cases (shortly after a dropped STT only) when it re acquires the target in one hit inside weapon range without the required “3 hits” to process a new track/extrapolation. Yes, it happens that when the STT lock breaks, the radar re-engages the target while the missile is on trajectory and a hit occurs.
AeriaGloria Posted January 26 Posted January 26 I’ve seen it happen with TWF on and without a missile in the air. Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com

And without the target being tracked in STT (РНП) when the track was dropped? Not that’s what I’m trying to say, only after STT/RNP lock drop Black Shark Den Squadron Member: We are open to new recruits, click here to check us out or apply to join! https://blacksharkden.com
