Ed Hunter Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Im trying to fly with real flight settings and keep having the rotors mesh together! I have read that this will happen if excessive right turns are made but i seam to be flying straightish. hopefully one of the better pilots (everybody) can tell me. the rotor mesh2 file hash 2 crashes to it thanks Sturotor mesh.trkrotor mesh2.trk [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
159_Archer Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Not having time to watch your tracks I'd guess that you're flying over or around 300kmh? That will certainly bring you to the right conditions for clashing blades. Also flying into a strong head-wind would have the same effect; This is all explained in the manual, but basically it's to do with the lower of the blades when it is providing much more lift and thus being pivoted closer to the upper set. Sorry if it's not the best explanation... 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 159th Guards Aviation Regiment; recruiting now! http://www.159thgar.com/ We now fly all modern Jets and Helos
nemises Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 I haven't looked at you tracks sorry, but rotor clashes will happen in all kinds of differnt scenarios.. The most common is exceding safe forward air speed. There are indicators to let you know you are approaching or above the safe max airspeed, the primary of which is the Velocity Warning alarm, which is pretty pervasive loud beeping! If you hear this, you are going too fast!, and you must slow down (pull the nose up a little bit, and lower collective a little bit) or else the blades could flap together. The Safe max airspeed is a function of altitude / air pressure I believe, and also loaded mass of the Shark.. It is indicated on the HUD as a tick mark on the Air Speed Indicator bar (upper left HUD)..usually somewhere between 270 and 300 KPH. 1
Ed Hunter Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 thanks its a start. want to fly online but want to fly first :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
159th_Viper Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 .....I have read that this will happen if excessive right turns are made...... Nonsense ;) Provided it it done right, you can Jam the Right Rudder through the Titanium Floor with no Ill-Effects whatsoever. .....and keep having the rotors mesh together!...... For an explanation of the phenomena and similar experiences, search for 'Rotor Interscetion' and have a look at the thread results. As regards to your Tracks, I've had a quick look and would attribute your crashes as a result of a wee bit of excessive Collective Input, but mainly due to Trim. Have to Trim constantly for Smooth Forward Flight. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! EtherealN Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Nonsense ;) Provided it it done right, you can Jam the Right Rudder through the Titanium Floor with no Ill-Effects whatsoever. As a small addition, the specific safety method you can combine with sharp right rudder inputs is to decrease collective. If I find myself needing to perform a really sharp right turn I'll dump collective while pulling stick back (to avoid losing altitude), then perform the turn, then resume normal flight with nominal collective and start regaining the airspeed I lost. This is all caused by the opposite rotation of the two rotor discs in a co-axial design - the feature that relieves it of the need for a tailrotor to counter the torque. The advancing blades (right side on the lower disc, left side on the higher) means that at higher airspeed they will get closer to each other. If you then apply right rudder or some cyclic inputs the lower disc will have a higher angle-of-attack than the higher (to introduce differential torque to achieve the yaw moment), which will cause the discs to move even closer to each other and in some regimes cause them to collide with catastrophic results. Dumping the collective decreases the angle of attack and makes collision easier to avoid in drastic maneuvers. Aside from trimming, this is probably the most important thing to master in this helicopter - learn how to perform sharp maneuvers at speed without clashing the rotor discs. Take advantage of the fact that this is a simulator and thus won't kill you and make a couple flights where you test maneuvers a couple times. Find the ones that will cause this to happen, and then see what modifications (like collective coordination) that will avoid the fatality. It'll teach you a lot and it is extremely rewarding when you get to the point where you can perform barrel rolls with relatively small risk. :) 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Daniel "EtherealN" Agorander | Даниэль "эфирныйн" Агорандер Intel i7 2600K @ 4.4GHz, ASUS Sabertooth P67, 8GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz, ASUS GTX 560Ti DirectCU II 1GB, Samsung 830series 512GB SSD, Corsair AX850w, two BENQ screens and TM HOTAS Warthog DCS: A-10C Warthog FAQ | DCS: P-51D FAQ | Remember to read the Forum Rules | | | Life of a Game Tester
Ed Hunter Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 I can do the barrel rolls but after i've mashed my rotors :music_whistling::lol: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
hitman Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 violent pitching and rolling has a tendancy to make the rotors collide too.
enigma6584 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Here is an excellent article which answers your questions regarding the "clashing of rotors." The author did a superb job. http://www.simhq.com/_air13/air_427a.html Hope this helps. Cheers.
Panzertard Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Clashing rotors is a myth - it never happened. It's a myth created by clever pilots coming up with all sorts off voodoo & math the rest of us doesn't understand. I blame EtherealN & GGTharos for those myths. The mind is like a parachute.
