Still Tearing after Vsync enabled?

Hi guys,

 

I've read up on most of threads relating to tearing but I cant seem to get rid of it...majority pointed me to forcing vsync to on in my Nvidia panel to stop it but this did not work. I've tried changing the maxfps in graphic.cfg file from 0,30,45,and 60fps and tearing is still there. I double check my monitor and it is refresh rate is 60hz. Is there anything else I could try or change to get rid of this tearing? Most of the tearing that I can easily see is tearing on the side cockpit struts when panning from left to right. I do remember once about a week ago I did make some changes within my Nvidia panel and got the tearing to stop for just a brief moment but I cant recall what the changes were or if it had anything to do with stopping the tearing. Vsync will work if you disable full screen mode. Unfortunately, you'll lose FPS by doing this.

It's debatable whether you lose actual FPS in the sense of "displayed on the monitor" as opposed to "computed in the GPU" though.

I know that when I enable full screen I get the most FPS, as of now I'm avg. 35fps on low settings with textures set to med. and 30fps on Medium settings and even lower if I disable full screen. I might sacrifice the tearing to keep the higher fps. Thanks

What is your water setting at? Water is one of the things where you can save a lot of FPS, especially if you go manually into the options file and set water=0.

Download Rivatuner - part of rivatuner is a program called D3doverrider , this forces v-sync and triple buffering in any DirectX game.

 

Edit:- I should explain that Vsync+Triple Buffering, stops Tearing without Framerate loss.

You might notice when the cockpit tearing occurs, when the FPS is less than 60 (if .cfg file set 60)

 

Try knocking the MAXIMUM PRE _RENDERED FRAMES setting down to 2, in the nVidia control panel... and maybe also try setting the THREADED OPTIMISATION setting to ON. this may help

 

VSync has been working in the nvidia driver releases on Vista and Window7, for a while now
