ModMan 7.2.0.0 out

Recommended Posts

Many thanks Skypat, just bought FC2 and having looked around the guts of it to see how it works compared to DCS this is going to be another very useful tool.

It's decidedly different, some changes I like, some not so much, but overall I think I can haul this beast to pieces and get what I want.

Hammer and Chisel time ...

It depends only of user and modders. For information i used modmanager with Rainbow six : Ravenshield, Rfactor, wow, and some others.;)

Modmanager is build like a manager for games, not a game in particular. There is special option for games such as lockon, DCS. But for common use, you have juste to add the right line in the ini file.

If my memory is good, Skypat disable it because there is change in the graphic management, and he has no time to check and adapt modman. At that time Locfg is released and did very well the job.

But now, i saw the post from the author of Locfg which said he has no time to develop a new version.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=16466&page=14

So, i'll have to talk with skypat, and see if he can re-activate that option which need some work. No promise that it will be back sooner or later.

That's cool. Just curious. ModMan makes mods actually feasible to swap around, that's all it really needs to do.

My FC 2.0 install is in C:/programfiles (X86).

Do I have to reinstall to make it work?

I have Win7 Ultimate 64.

I get a warning for Vista users when installing, but I`m not sure if this is valid for Win7 users.

vista/win7 same ;)

Skypat,

is the ".CFG" changing functionality supposed to work with the FC2 ".lua" files?

For testing, I wanted to create a mod that changes the "Config\View\View.lua" file in that way that the entry...

head_roll_shaking = true

...is changed to...

head_roll_shaking = false

...so that there is no need to completely exchange the "View.lua" file. However, regardless if I try changing the value or deleting an recreating the whole key, it does not seem to work. I see that the file date is touched, but the contents of the file never change.

And a second question: is it possible to create mod files which *only* contain configuration changes (which are created with the ".cfg" or ".misc" buttons)? It looks like we *have* to add some files, otherwise Modman does not see the mod at all.

Thanks!

Dunc.

I did a mod the head roll shakking and it works for me, but i replace the entire file.

For the file date, it's like the graphic.cfg file. When you install a MOD which give modification in the file, the file date change. When you uninstall an addon, it's the same way. You remove what you add installing the MOD. So as you modify the file, the file date change.

Try to install just on MOD which modify the graphic.cfg, uninstall it and the date from the graphic.cfg is modified, but its contents is still the same that when you install the game.

If you want to retore the same date, you have to use the option in Modmanager. In option menu, Select the file you want to restore (grphic.cfg in my exemple), then press the button on the right. If you go in your game folder, you'll see that date file is the same that when you installed the game.

But be carefull with that option. Be sure that you have no others addons which use the graphic.cfg file.

Exemple with addon which use the graphic.cfg:

1- Install Mod 1

2- Install Mod 2

3- Install Mod 3

4- Restore original graphic file. So Mod 1,2 and 3 will no works any longer because lines added in the graphic.cfg file will no longer be present.

So, i don't know if adding or modifying line in lua file could be possible. Only Skypat can answer that question. I'll talk with him for that point.

Yes, replacing the whole file works for sure, but that is exactly what I wanted to avoid.

Think about e.g. multiple mods that like to modify the same file. They would overwrite each other if they just replace the file as a whole. Hence the "let's change the necessary values within the .lua files only" approach.

For the file date, it's like the graphic.cfg file. When you install a MOD which give modification in the file, the file date change. [...]
Understood. I just wanted to point out THAT the file is indeed changed, even though the key/value mod itself did not work.

So... did I get this right? Even if all mods would only change individual key/value lines in the cfg file (no replacing of a whole file), the uninstall would always restore the backup file? Instead of rolling back the individual key/value changes only? Hmm... that's unfortunate.

So, i don't know if adding or modifying line in lua file could be possible. Only Skypat can answer that question. I'll talk with him for that point.
Thanks a lot, I'm looking forward to the answer! At least in the changenotes, it states that CFG and LUA files can be changed alike.

Cheers and Happy Easter!

No, my exemple was only if you are using the hot file restore option.

For a normal use, and always with the graphic.cfg using Mod without graphic.cfg in their package

1- install Mod 1

2- Install Mod 2

3- Install Mod 3

Every Mod add their own lines in the graphic.cfg, but if you uninstall any mod, others ones still work, because modman remove only lines added during the installation. So that why we recommend to not include graphic.cfg in addons.

Exemple with Mod with graphic.cfg and no graphic.cfg file.

1- Install Mod 1 add graphic.cfg file

2- Install Mod2 with no graphic.cfg file in its package, but which add line in graphic.cfg

In that configuration, Mod 1 and 2 works, because Mod 2 add line in the graphic.cfg which has been replace when you installed Mod 1. But for uninstalling Mod, you have to uninstall first Mod 2, then Mod 1.

But if we install Mod like that :

1- Install Mod2 with no graphic.cfg file in its package, but which add line in graphic.cfg

2- Install Mod 1 add graphic.cfg file

In that configuration Mod 1 don't work any more because line added during its installation will be over written by Mod 2 which add its own graphic file.

For the lua file, i don't know if skypat could do something, i'll see with him. But Modman use several files from windows which optimise his work. So, i'm not sure, but, maybe, Skypat use notepad files for editing cfg file. And as you know, you can't edit lua files with notepad. So, maybe Skypat can find a way. Again, only him can answer.

Happy Easter too.

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a question. A mod I installed using Modman managed to break my game, so I disabled everything and the game still CTDed. I see an option to restore the original files, but apparently you can only restore one at a time? Is there a way to restore everything at once?

KIS detects Modman 7200 as a virus?

Kaspersky internet security detects Modman 7200 on my PC as a virus?!

On the new HDD I wanted to install modman 7200 but KIS immediately deleted it.

7.5.2010 23:32:38 Infected Trojan program Trojan-GameThief.Win32.Lmir.low

http : //www.backup.lockonfiles.com/modules/Downloads/fileuploads/modman7200.zip/modman7200.exe//lib\dxtex.exe High

I tried to download modman from www.checksix-fr.com, but same result.

Is this a false identification? If anyone knows the solution, please be nice, and write. Don't just say to turn off antivirus and install it, I know that. :helpsmilie:
