JasBird Posted April 9, 2010 Posted April 9, 2010 Hi Great game and I'm having a blast. Have a few questions that are still unclear to me. - I've been doing one of the Mig29 missions and I'm armed with just the R60. The enemy has a few F-16 with apparently only AIM9P's. I have a hard time locking them up with the IR sensor, so I use radar first. If I remeber correctly I could not fire the R60 with radar lock, but had to turn on IR. Is it best to lock with radar first and then turn on IR? Will the radar guide the IR seeker? - When it comes to wingman, I'm a little unsure what orders to give. Like in this mission we get pretty close before contact. Should I give him attack enemy or engage my target before missile range. If I don't give him orders will he just cover me and follow lead unless fired upon? Does he use his IR to seek actively or is it only with radar on he searches for targets. The wingman is pretty quick to find targets with the radar :) I'm sure more questions will pop up. Cheers
EvilBivol-1 Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 You should be able to lock the target with radar and cue the missile onto it. When the missile has locked the target and you are within firing range, you will get the Launch Authorized command. It's probably best to issue your wingman a command to either engage bandits or engage your target a little before you are ready to fire. This way he will have some time to get into position to fire. Just note that "engage bandits" can sometimes lead to your wingman going after targets far away, so you have to keep an eye on him. If possible, "engage my target" is probably a better choice. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. Everything takes much longer. The Parable of Jane's A-10 Forum Rules
JasBird Posted April 10, 2010 Author Posted April 10, 2010 (edited) Thanks for reply. So no need to turn on Optical then? Just radar with IR missile and fire when LA? Great job on FC2. Runs really nice on my computer compared to Lock On and FC1. I'll throw in another question. Since I now use Track IR I find it very hard to seperate friends and foe during air combat compared to just using the padlock. I'm talking about the stage where you end up close in after head on BVR. I've only flown the Mig29 Missions so far, but they kinda force you into these situations :) The AI always seem to know who to shoot at :) I like to fly the russian aircrafts and when in vertical mode you lock somone up with optical. If I then turn on radar I assume the radar locks on the target aswell? I just taught about this, but is radar slaves to the Optical lock, will the Wingman call out spike if I lock him up, or does he only call spike when enemy locks him up? It's really hard to keep track of Wingman in combat. Once I tell him to engage or he goes defensive he might be everywhere. Any advice? Edited April 11, 2010 by LeadBird
