I read somewhere Su-27 aircraft participated in the battle of Tshinkvali. Does anyone know whether they also did ground attack? And what would have been their payload? Did they had also the Sorbtsya ECM pods?

Over Tskhinvali shows fighter but not confirmed that was Fulcrum or Flanker. Don't know what about payload. Georgia probably wants to use their Su-25's and it was blocked by showing up the fighter. They stepped back with deploying planes when they saw armoured (I bet strictly A2A missiles) two-engines aircraft...

We can say the role of this fighter was CAP over Georgia and eliminate everything what take-off to secure Russian bombers and CAS planes...

That's all what I know about it...

No, I have no sources that is why I ask. It is mentioned on two Wikipedia articles:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tskhinvali

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_Su-27

And also a mention here: http://www.defencetalk.com/russian-su-27-flights-suspended-crash-23740/

Again repeated in this overview article: http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=1d4_1218246365
