Phenom II X2 3.1 vs Phenom II X4 3.2

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, do you think will be a noticeable difference in performance between a Phenom II X2 and a Phenom II X4 in games, in this case for FC 2 and the BlackShark?

Thanks in advance

Not a vast difference between the two. The X4 will add a little headroom to move threads around, but even two cores should leave you with place to spare and clock frequency would be the governing factor. If run at the same speed, the two processors will likely perform identical to each other.

Mind though that some games and applications will be able to take greater benefit of the two extra cores, and with the X4 you are less vulnerable to things like scheduled defrags or anti-virus sweeps and so on lowering your performance. If you are selecting purely on performance and not on money, I'd say go for the X4 for that added anti-background-process safety. If you want to make it cheaper, go X2.

In my own personal opinion there is no processor on the planet that should not be overclocked, but that's just me... :P

Not sure about it's a BE or not, but I will check that, and about which one to choose, I think I will buy the Phenom II X2, it's cheaper than the X4, and can buy some additional DDR3 memmory, unless the extra core temptation wins at the moment of buying the processor.

Thanks a lot guys
