Well it looks like Paraguay held against the Italians, interesting, confirming they staid as strong now as their qualifying phase. So in my Book, Germany and Paraguay, with the later looking better, are the only 2 real contenders right now.

 

Some say Holland and Portugal are dark horses, but I fail to see that. The definition of dark horse depends on nobody calling them that so early. :D

 

What convinces me more of my fears that this is true, its that everybody expects CR to be the savior for his team and that upsets me. How can we expect 1 man among 11 to do the job alone? What saves a team is cohesion, not superstars. And cohesion was apparently the weakness in the qualifying phase. I dont expect to be any different now, and Im afraid the CR illusion is clouding everybody's minds, and that will be shown soon enough.

 

A cohesive average group of players is better than one mediatic team full of mismatching players or overpaid supermodels with hair chest...(some times not even that).

 

And after saying this Paraguay looks even better...

 

oh well...at least the teams name starts with a "p" :D

Followed the game of Portugal VS ivory coast through the British internet media while at work, and what a miserable game it was. But as said earlier it was expected.

 

Equally miserable was the efforts of the commentators in (not) containing their support for the other team just begging to come out of their chests. bah :P

Best game so far, brazil VS DPRK. I almost believed the north koreans were going to pull an upset over brazil. They looked like they were fighting for their lives...wait a minute...hmmm :unsure:

 

Having being defeated but with such perfomance, DPRK makes Portugals prospects even the more daunting now. :D the 2 are next!

It was a pleasant game, for sure.

 

Both teams played it clean and focused on just playing football - the way it's meant to be played :D

 

We (Brazil) did suffer an easily avoidable goal, and the passing and crossing wasn't very accurate, but tactically they've played well.

 

Now let's wait and see how they behave against a stronger team.

 

I hope the next games are clean and enjoyable as this one. Last matches weren't flowing, just lots of fouls but no playing - too much whistle for too little football (specially the Danish troglodytes stopping the ball every freaking time against NL, which still tried hard to put a good show).

Spain VS Swizzerland game is on. Watching the text live from BBC. While the comentators dont hide their support for the Spanish I remenber that from our teams experience the Swiss albeit not the highest ranking team by far commit alot of fouls, play tight defense, and are insidious and treacherous on sudden counteratacks when it all seems they are being owned.

Beautifull football just doesnt work against the swiss...

 

Spain better watch out. They will definatly sweat bullets to pass that defense wall.

Hope your not spanish :D but history repeats itself. Whenever Spain gather an invincible armada it is sunk.

 

I strongly suspected the Swiss would stall Spain's hope with a tie or worse. Just read my previous post.

 

I confess after seeing that much bias from the BBC commentators I started to support the alpines. Those sad reporters can remember who scored a goal 50 years ago but not how a team has played in the last few championships.

 

In my book its a well deserved shock for this world cup. Sorry nuestros hermanos! :)

Swiss deserved to win.

 

I expected referee would extend the game until Spain scores. I still remember 2005 and Spain-Bosnia 1:1 (0:1 '39, 1:1 '97). That's when you play with big ones.

Uruguay blasted the bafana bafana out of the water, but judging by the sad state of the french team I wouldnt discount them just yet. :D

And thats that, argentina is qualified already. Amazing, the other teams will take almost aniother 2 weeks to secure theirs, such is the overal equilibrium.

 

And hey greece and Nigeria just started to play. I expect the greeks to play in the same fashion ans the Swiss, as the Nigerians are phisicaly too strong to deal with, one on one tactics in open field.

Anyway looks like I was wrong for the greece game, the Nigerians made their lives easy when beating up other players in the pitch became a tactic. That wild card had immediate results as the greeks suddenly were not shy anymore and scored almost immediately after.

 

But how about the France VS mexico next? oooh ohhh Ill guess this one out. :D

Judging by the lack of confidence and sad state, France is to expect another draw at best.
