Btw, the young lady is one of the finest bass players you will ever see. Her name is Tal Wilkenfeld.

This one is for Yurgon. Even though ELP is not your cup of tea, I suspect you will like this one.

....and yes I know the video quality sucks.

Thanks! I guess that would be called "shoe-gazing" nowadays. :)

Very experimental, yet extremely well played and highly innovative.

I wanted to post some Joe Jackson in return, but I already did that a good while ago. ;)

These guys are coming to my town in February, so here's something more modern:

Cool. That actually reminds me of Joe Jackson around the time of Beat Crazy.

EDIT: I missed those vids you posted. Awesome stuff. His hair is all white now but his voice is still solid.

EDIT2: In case you have not guessed, I listened to some very odd stuff in my youth.

Who didn't? ;)

I became a fan of these guys before I finished school:

Freaky Fukin Weirdoz - Bitch make Sandwich

That above video is actually the first song from their first album.

Freaky Fukin Weirdoz - Mao Mak Maa

This is from their 4th and in my opinion best album. At the time, their drummer was Marco Minnemann. His drumming was among the most impressive I've ever witnessed. He later quit the band and had gigs with bands all around the world. It's no surprise to me he's among the top drummers of our time.

Probably boring for most people, but I just can't believe how incredibly flexible this guy is, while always playing very powerful:

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

A little heavy for my tastes but not bad. That last one is certainly interesting.

My idea of heavy metal music is early Black Sabbath and Alice Cooper. I think I actually scared my mother a few times with some of it. She once thought I had company when I was listening to a Frank Zappa album.

I also got complaints from the neighbors once, when I was home alone and working in the yard. I moved my 3 foot tall Genesis speakers outside (yes I had that much cable hooked to them) and played Kraftwerk at full volume. :D

Penguin Cafe Orchestra, Tomita, Walter (later Wendy) Carlos and lots of other stuff that would now be classified as electronica, I guess, were some of my favorites. I usually had to special order the music I wanted and every time I went to pick them up the clerk would say something like "Who the hell are these bands, I have never heard of them".

Wait for the bass solo at the 2:00 minute mark.

I think she was only about 20 years old when this was recorded. Playing since she was 14.

She is a little older here.

I love how she chased his hands away when he got in her way.

I don't know that is Bill for sure, but I do think it is him. The face and the voice can't be anyone else.

I think you're the only person that posts anything here I've ever heard of Cichlidfan.

Probably because I am much older than most who post in this thread.

Btw, here is another version of the duet.

Keep in mind that she was born 10 years after he first recorded this tune.

I saw Jeff about 3 months ago, with, unfortunately, a different band. However Rosie Bones is an awesome singer and her bass player is quite good too!

He is interesting to see. He never talks. I think he spoke about ten words, just at the end of the show.

...and uplugged...still amazing

Speaking of great bass players:

Bruno Mars - Chunky (live) [bass Cover by Marta Altesa]

I think I actually first heard of her because of this thread some years ago.

Coming back to great bass players and Joe Jackson, his long time bassist Graham Maybe is among my favorite bass players of all time (though not quite as attractive as the above mentioned lady ;)).

This one has crappy sound, but holds some sentimental value for me because I was at this very concert. :D

Joe Jackson Band - Got The Time (live in Hannover, 2003)

Here's the original album recording from "Look Sharp", 1979:

Joe Jackson - Got the Time

Of course, speaking of great and influential bass players, there's just no way around Flea:

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give It Away

The bassist of German crossover band H-Blockx named Flea as one of his biggest inspirations. Incidentally, Marco Minnemann joined them for one album after quitting the Freaky Fukin Weirdoz:

H-Blockx - Fly

It's a small world. ;)

It is so cool when you can find a vid of a show you were at. I have a DVD of the Jethro Tull show that I saw in 1978. Very good memories of that show and being able to watch it again is awesome.

Nice bass stuff, btw.
