digital_steve Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 Hey all, I have a nice little mimo 720-S here doing nothing. Obviously a 7" screen is too small to run touchpal, but is anyone using a small touch screen for anything? Any help/advice appreciated. AMD Phenom II 965 BE @ 3.8GHz, 8GB OCZ AMD BE RAM, ATI HD5970 2GB XFX BE @ 875/1215, TM HOTAS Cougar, TM Cougar MFDs, TrackIR 5, CH MFP, GoFlight Switch Panel, iMo Mini-Monster Touch, Mimo 720S, Saitek Pro Flight Headset
CyBerkut Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 You could probably use TouchPal, but just edit it to put fewer things on the screen. TouchBuddy can work with it. If you're flying Lockon FC2, you might take a look at Yoda's LEAVU. If you're playing online, you could park your voice comms display on it... [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] There's no place like 127.0.0.1
Moa Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 See the video in the first post of leavu2 release thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=53464&highlight=leavu2 Two 7" displays fronted by the Thrustmaster MFD. Works pretty sweet in LockOn2 and will come in handy in DCS:Warthog
MackTheKnight Posted July 9, 2010 Posted July 9, 2010 I had one and was using it in blackshark as the Shkval, but it died after only 2 weeks of use, sadly. And the vendor had none left in stock when I tried to get another. :( It worked really well as a shkval for those 2 weeks, though. -Mack
digital_steve Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 I used the touchscreen with one of the falcon 4 af touchbuddy profiles... it worked fine, apart from the fact that it cut off some of the panel graphics and switches in the various tabs, which pretty much made it useless actually. No matter what i edited, i couldn't get the graphics to fit in the touchbuddy screen properly. Bit of a waste of money on my part to be honest. 51GRIZZLY Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 So basically trying to use touchbuddy in FC2 on a 7-8 inch screen is pretty much a waste of time ? Or is it so that FC2 dosen't work with touchbuddy at any resolution
Oscar Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 Touchbuddy has no graphic relationship to the game itself. You might want to pickup Touchbuddy Toolkit and resize/reconfigure the tabs display to fit the 7" screen as previously mentioned, but if you're running default resolution, most of the user-created profiles should work. The image might be small if you have "older" eyes. Or, you could just build your own profile. WBK's Lomac profile (with or without labels) should work fine a give you the basic set of functions for the A-10/F-15. Other profiles are there for other aircraft; Su-25T, etc. There are some however that will require a bigger monitor area - i.e. DCS:BS - especially those who have integrated additional components like LOVP and BSVP. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
51GRIZZLY Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 (edited) Well im planning on getting a 12-inch screen so that the buttons have a decent size will that suffice or should i go for a bigger one like 15, 17 or 21-inch? Edited July 12, 2010 by <51>GRIZZLY
digital_steve Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 On the contrary, the 7" size was fine... it's just the graphics didn't fit the screen properly no matter what i tried. Now i've heard about the TB toolkit, that might be the answer. 51GRIZZLY Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 Im thinking of getting myself a touchscreen to use it with a touchbuddy profile in FC2 and i could use some advise. As far as i get it the problem is that you have to alter/add files in export.lua. that AFAIK are included in the integrety check on most online servers .......... I could be wrong though as im not so much into the topic.
Oscar Posted July 13, 2010 Posted July 13, 2010 As far as i get it the problem is that you have to alter/add files in export.lua. Nope. Think of Touchbuddy as a 'virtual, programmable' USB keyboard with an unlimited set of keys. All it does is send keyboard commands to the game - no different than programming you HOTAS. Its just done graphically instead of physically. Well im planning on getting a 12-inch screen so that the buttons have a decent size will that suffice or should i go for a bigger one like 15, 17 or 21-inch? I have a rotated 17" sitting between two Thrustmaster MFDs, running in client(local)/server mode via TCP/IP - works fine, and its a lot of extra space I use for other things as well. 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
digital_steve Posted July 13, 2010 Author Posted July 13, 2010 The biggest i'd worry about is the mimo 10" touchscreen personally... but that's just me. MackTheKnight Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 There is a flag you can set in the touchbudy config file that forces the profiles to scale to the size of the screen you're running it on. It works well for me but I'm scaling up as opposed to down. My touch screens run at 1920 X 1080, so I'm not sure how well it'd work scaling down to a 7" screen. Read through the touch-buddy config file. The setting is documented in there somewhere... I'd find it but I don't have my sim machine in front of me at the moment. -Mack
digital_steve Posted July 19, 2010 Author Posted July 19, 2010 Cheers for that... think i tried that option and it didn't work. Got a 10" touchscreen now, so it should work fine. Have to check tonight.
