Okay so I've been trying the first top of the list campaign mission and I don't understand how to aim rockets. I primarily fly in HUD only mode and whenever I try to use rockets they seem to just go bugger off everywhere else except where I wanted them.

One quick point to reinforce the tutorials (they are also available as downloads on digitalcombatsimulator.com, btw): don't try to be precise. Rockets are artillery weapons - the difference between your rockets and those launched by an MLRS or classical Katyusha is that the launch platform is airborne, not a tracked or wheeled ground vehicle.

I just wish the training missions worked in the steam version. :(

It's not the steam version - it's the patch 1.0.2.

Due to the new Track-format the old training mission wouldn't play back correctly.

I'll speculate: Not at this stage, no.

I'm not sure if you can use the "uninstall patch - revert to 1.0.1" with the Steam version, but you can do that with the standalone version.

With v1.0.1x you will be able to play the tracks / training missions.

Will they ever be fixed?

It's quite simple, really. Multiple Installs - that way you can have an install dedicated for track playback, one for mainstream online play, another for SP modifications, etc etc

Just had a thought - Would this work on Steam?

Sure just copy the black shark folder like you would any other way from ...\Steam\steamapps\common\ or wherever it installs black shark to.

O/T rockets:

Why is it when I have a locked target w/ laser on and switch over to rockets, the rocket's trajectory indicator drops really low, well below my own visual line of sight? I have to either disable the Laser range finder or move the shkval reticle down low, then the rocket's reticle will slide up into the normal line of sight.

Thanks for any insight.

The key is range.

You correctly point and lock your sensor with the laser rangefinder on. This provides enough data to the aircraft's computer in order it to calculate the impact point. The "trajectory indicator" you mention is actually the Calculated Impact Point.

If you have locked a target beyond the rocket's range (usually 3km) the reticule will drop too low. This means, theoretically, that in order for your rocket to travel that much distance to the target you have to fire it with your nose pitched up. Practically, even if you were able to do that, your results will be poor since the rockets will disperse too much.

If you take your time and approach the target you 'll see the reticule will eventually come up.

Oh so awesome now. TY

Now it all makes sense. Thanks for correcting me. I was also too far from targets to use them

Be ready to eventually give up (as a strategy of last resort). I was looking forward to rockets in this sim (taking out three out of four vehicles fired at in one run etc.) - but the mixture of the flight control system and fire control system means that employing rockets is actually harder than employing missiles (requiring more avionics use, delays etc.)

So now I fly an unarmed Ka-50...
