A few things,

1) Don't get what this has got to do with modman

2) It's Simulation.exe

3) Not a clue what your asking about the Shkval

:D

3) Just re-read your question, the shkval does follow the target when locked, do you mean the helecopter? If so, turn on "Turn to Target".

You would also want to enable "Mov Gnd Tgt" as well if you're tracking a moving vehicle (button catty-corner to the one highlighted in the attachment).

I don't think I have ever enabled that and I don't think I have ever had a vik miss...what is it for?

Actually, I just did a test-run and the rockets hit where the pipper was when launching the rockets, not where the target was during impact, even though it states in the manual that the targeting system should calculate lead when pushing that button. The cannon performed as expected and tore that danish hummer to bits.

The rocket selector switch was at the correct setting, so I guess it's just not simulated as of now?

How could the rockets be adjusted for lead if their launchers aren't stearable? That is an important difference with the cannon.

I doubt whether the real shark can take target movement into account when firing rockets...

One way to do it would be to show the pilot a second aiming point, offset from the calculated impact point to take the movement into account, but there obviously is no such feature. Are you sure that something like that was meant by the manual? (I don't have it handy here).

If can easily see the pipper being adjusted so you'd have to point the aircraft differently to hit. Seems logical to me.

Here's the quote from the manual:

“НПЦ” (Moving ground target mode) button. If the Shkval is tracking a moving target and you press this button prior to launching a Vikhr ATGM, the weapon control system will adjust the Vikhr launch parameters to account for a moving target and thereby increase accuracy. The targeting system will also calculate lead for gun and rockets employment. [N]

A rather mystical statement, if you ask me. What launch parameter would be adjusted for a Vikhr?

Also, it doesn't say how the calculated lead should be presented to the pilot. As a pipper displacement as you suggest? Or a second aiming point (would be more clear in my opinion). Anyway, I have never observed either. So you're probably right: not implemented...

Actually quick question, sort of on topic, when the rockets/cannon aren't locked onto a target (via the shkval or the HMS) it is boresight mode isn't it?

And in that case it is normal for the piper to be floating around as I fly as it's the predicted fall point for the rockets? Or am I not locking the boresight properly?

You're right, without Shkval lock, the targeting defaults to boresight for cannon (rockets are always boresighted). As long as you have your laser rangefinder active and done a ranging, the pipper will still correct for ballistics though. Note that after a laser ranging, the range is calculated (extrapolated from last measurement) based on the heli position, attitude and assuming flat terrain. The range accuracy will deteriorate and is especially bad in mountainous terrain.
