nscode Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 First come the super sonic bullets, then you hear the the sound of the gun itself 1 Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
wildone_106 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 I wish there was a way to re-create that jet sound as the plane flys by, instead of how its usually done by just raising and lowering the pitch of the 'same noise' which always sounds awefull. I dont care if they fake it with say 3 or 4 flyby sounds as long as its like that!
Nate--IRL-- Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 There are usually at least 2 or 3 engine sounds for each jet in LO. AroundEngine, FrontEngine and BackEngine. I'm sure with the right sounds samples and adjusting of the sdef files you could get the sound you want. Sticky Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 1st sound is the bullets stricking the 2nd is the gun sounds from the plane. you ever hear the saying "your dead before you even hear it." The first sound, is it the sound of the bullets travelling through the air, perhaps the sonic boom, or is it like you say the sound of the bullets striking the ground or some mock target? wildone_106 Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 So just to re-iterate the sound of the bullets hitting because they are traveling at supersonic speed and the gun firing isn't so it lags behind the bullets!
WindWpn Posted August 16, 2010 Posted August 16, 2010 (edited) Cool, I actually live in Dare County, though did not know we had a A-10 firing range?! However, we do have the Dare County bombing range which is likely the place where this takes place. Often my house shakes like a minor earthquake, and I attribute it to either a shock wave from the bombing range, or supersonic jets flying offshore. Though, we never hear any sound, only the shake of the house. However, I remember a fond A-10 experience I personally had while 4-wheeling on the Kill Devil Hills sand dunes many years ago when it was "permitted." Basically, a buddy and I were in his Jeep Cherokee atop a large steep sand dune ready to take the plunge... While sitting there, two A-10s in formation flew overhead and then circled us to watch my buddy make the drop. We did it with no problems, but it was quite cool to see the A-10s circle right above us at low altitude watching us "go for it!" Pretty cool! 71st_Mastiff Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 I'm not totally sure. I have had the opportunity, when I was in the US ARMY and sat on gun ranges. I always hear the bullets striking the ground first then about 3 seconds later I would hear the sounds from the A10 or the F-16. This would of been during combined arms exercises at Ft. Hood Tx. I was told by the range masters that if you hear the sonic crack as they explained it, you probably are right underneath them or to close. But more then likely your hearing the bullet strike the ground and the sonic crack in unison. When your off to the sides, watching. The sound these aircraft make is unimaginably loud, no video can do the this ground-rumbling engine justice. Very cool, though do you have perfect vision including no color blindness? This was the issue I ran into when I was planning to pursue a military pilot career back in the late 80s when I graduated from HS. Unfortunately, for me I had everything else going except the eyes. I always wonder if today a young guy has vision issues, and with the permanent correction options available, is there hope to earn you wings regardless of bad eyes in HS? Though for color blindness you may still be out of luck unless you can "learn" early to overcome the blindness to pass any related tests.
