I think it's more about which processor you should buy... go for the fastest you can afford. Unless you have reason to need a quad core, you'll get more bang for your buck, from DCS and LockOn, with a dual core.

2600K @ 4.2GHz, MSI P67A-GD55, 16GB G.Skill @2133 , GTX 970, Rift, SSD boot & DCS drive

It's not that it doesn't run well on a quad core, it just doesn't utilize all of the cores. It doesn't really matter what core you're running it on afaik. Run it on one that isn't being used by the system constantly?

Personally, I went for a quad core because of some of the other games that I play that need it to run smoothly, and it works fine for DCSBS. (Phenom II X4 945 @ 3.0GHz)

Check those priced more or less the same:

i5 760 (4 core 2.8Ghz 8MB caché)

i5 661 (2 core 3.33Ghz 4MB caché)

I would pick i5 760, mainly because there are some simulators out there that use them (RoF, Arma, etc.).

AMD Ryzen 1400 // 16 GB DDR4 2933Mhz // Nvidia 1060 6GB // W10 64bit // Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2

I'd bet 4 cores... 1 for sound engine 1 for game, rest for system.

I'd also often use Photoshop and I'd like to start Sony Vegas ect apps. They are optimized for more cores I guess.

Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D

Quad cores work just fine with BS. You just wont get 100% cpu utilization.

Keep in mind that not all cores are created equally and Ghz isnt the only factor. For instance, a Core i7 860 which runs at 2.8Ghz will outperform a core i5 670 running at 3.46Ghz in a lot of tests. For some good benchmarking numbers check out this site.
