So, I recently picked up a sales job at Microcenter in St Louis Park, MN. Once I was off and running in the store, I made a trip to the gaming section next to where I work. To my excitement I noticed a few copies of BS on the shelf. I made a note of it. Over then next week, I sold the last few copies we had to people I noticed wondering through the flight sim section. BTW, it's dominated by FSX mods and add ons. My coworkers knew nothing of the sim so could not sell it. Though I am no pro, I have been flying since last Dec so I know the sim and could explain how great it is. Now I just need to try and get some more copies in.

 Yeah, I've noticed the same when I go shopping, there seems to be either FSX or HAWX and similar titles in the sim sections.

In a few occations you can find IL-2 1946 as a bargain buy.

Rarely seeing any fully fledged sims anymore.

IL-2 is about as close to a true sim as you can get aside from DCS right now. The physics are pretty good. Some where between FC and DCS. You can't just through the aircraft around. If you do they just go out of controle.

I'm totally cool with helping ED make more cash. The more they get the more great titles we can expect to see.

Simple put...people are getting dumber. Either it is because of high cholesterol food, or industrial pollutant. They just want to get in air as quickly as possible for YYYYYAAAAATTTTTZZZZEEEEESSSS without even trying to learn a thing or two, and feel the real experience.

Whenever I see someone buying HAWX, I just think of that person as a moron with capital M.

My thinking exactly.

But this is explainable in a cortex way. brain get easely exited by FPS (hawx is a FPS in the air) because they activate the same region as hunting/fighting region.

We got the same enjoyment when we are playing complex sim + "intelectual" satisfaction to have mastered something "hard".

Just that people want more and more imediate satisfaction.... + Console = poorer games.

See Arma 2 (patched)/ VS COD/Bad company.... People (kids are people) complain Arma 2 is too complex

1C / DCS are jewels that are to be supported.

Maybe is the fact that american s are getting dumber :D since there s no sim producers anymore there.

OTOH, the market lack entrance/medium sim market, those are the one that bring people in. Another point is lack of marketing, but i guess they get marketing enought from us.

HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD.

Track IR 5, Hall sensed Cougar, Hall sensed TM RCS TM Warthog(2283), TM MFD, Saitek pro combat rudder, Cougar MFD.

Not really a good or fair assessment.

People do what they think is fun; in our case, we hop in our flight sim and try to fly it as well as possible (in most cases, I guess ;) ).

In their case, they need something fast, neat, with atmosphere, but this doesn't mean that they are morons, brainless, or un-successful. It's all about what you want to invest your time into, and maybe realistic flight simulation just isn't it. You get your ya-ya's out playing HAWX for a half hour (See how that works? I fly to the flippin' FLOT for a half hour!), then go play with the GF, go get some drinks, go to sleep, then go to work in the morning doing your 80k/year project management job.

Yes, I know people like that. Do not judge people by the type of game they play, it is far too hit and miss ;)

Poomph!

Echoed GG.

My tuppence worth - "Whatever floats your boat!"

We are all different people, that is what makes Humans 'Human'. We get our kicks out of different way. Some prefer the in depth Sims that come hand in hand with a 588 page manual that does not guarantee you'll be able to fly the sim model at then end of reading it, some prefer the ' hop in, shoot, W()()T, shoot again, land, next mission" type sim.

Horses for courses see. You may like the missionary only position with 'er' indoors. I however, certainly do not! :-) (details ommitted for fear of banning!)

Lets lighten up people, ive noticed there are some real hard hitters scouring the forums of late.

Enjoy life, it aint here for long. How long? the 64million dollar question right?

Agreeing with Tyger and GG, but I'd be willing to bet that the steep learning curve of simulators puts off a LOT of people, and that if they'd just gotten a month into it they'd be sold, and our community 10 or 100 times bigger than it is today.

Sort of. Again, if all you have in the day is half an hour to spend on a game, will you really play a sim? I think the people that answer 'yes' are in the vast minority.

Definitely. Do you go trough start-up and fly to nav point 1 then have to quit or hop into some frenzied simplified action? I'd choose the latter myself most of the time.

But if you have 1.5 hours, it's a completely different story..

Maybe users should brag about the arcade mode already available within. However I doubt they will. From experience, this forum could be a bit harsh. They might not want to show themselves as "weak" (not that they are) in playing arcade style within the community. But it’s available nevertheless… It's all about having fun in the end.

That is a very good point. I am not familiar with how the game modes are compared to the simulation modes, but I expect it could be a very nice way to attract more casual players. I guess "we" are often guilty of quite a degree of arrogance when it comes to this issue, and I guess that's only natural, as most of the appeal of theese sims is the incredible depth. If the game mode was well promoted with it's own servers and videos on youtube, etc, it might attract some more casual players.. And from there maybe the road to simulation modes isn't too long. Could be good for sales as well I guess.

Wow, this kind of evolved a bit form my OP.

I play lots of stuff. I play some Bad Company 2 and even some console stuff. But I have been simming since I was about 12 or 13. Untill I picked up DCS, It had been just Falcon since Falcon 4.0 came out. Nothing else really measured up.

That being said, I get a lot of free time at night after the wife goes to bed. At least 3 hours before I head that way. So, depending on my mood, I will play just about anything.

Simming at our level is like fishing.

10% of the population do it for hours and get a huge amount of satisfaction from it.

the other 90% wonder why :)

:megalol: best analogy I've read in years but quite fitting.

When new gamers come to a site and see that people are calling them morons. Why would they want to be in that community.

Methinks the bigger question here is: why are our forum/community members calling the newcomers morons?

However, your question certianly deserves asking as well.

I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!"

You may very well see such a video from me (for DCS: A-10C that is), as i have been asked to also do an "arcade" video for the, well, "arcade sim" fans.

It will, of course, happen when both the sim (with all the necessary features implented) and myself is ready for such a video. Primary task right now is Project 10.
