As Pyroflash said, the AoA is the angle between relative wind and the longitudinal axis. 1 I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" power5 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Wow was not thinking we would be attacking from 20k feet in A10. I keep my BS under cherubs 5 :) almost all the time. What reason does a CAS attack plane have engaging at that altitude? Wouldn't this increase the chance of getting picked off by an f15 20 miles away? Laud Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 F-15s don't shoot at A-10s! ;) Usually CAS-AC operate in quite safe environments regarding enemy fighters. So the harddeck is to avoid manpads AAA and stuff like that. Not really, if they are around and you have no escort you are screwed regardless of altitude, but it does put you above the ceiling of MANPADS any many SHORAD systems as well as giving your LGBs and JDAMs much greater range.

Pyroflash Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 (edited) No, not that dreaded book! And here I was thinking having finished my Private Pilot's Exam that I would be safe from it's educational terror... Also, while we are on the topic, does the firing of the A-10's gun "Over-g" the airframe like it tends to do in real life? (The firing of the 30 mm main gun on the A-10 tends to shake the aircraft so much that the G-meter sometimes shows +9 g's (it sometimes got the pilots in trouble right after a flight because the maintenance personnel looked at the max recorded G's for the flight and thought the airframe was being over-g'd when in reality it was just the gun screwing with the g-meter)) Edited September 9, 2010 by Pyroflash If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
element1108 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 ^^ never mind the g meter, sitting on that thing is the best form of birth control there is. You'll be shooing blanks for a week after riding that thing.
kingneptune117 Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 is anyone else really worried about how big of a pain its gonna be configuring your joystick? Im sticking with my x52, and its really gonna suck probably. Eddie Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 Not that hard to set up the X52 as long as you don't mind using shifted commands everywhere. It took me about 20 mins to build my profile which uses only the real hotas functions. I will be very glad to get my HOTAS Warthog though.
VIKBELL Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 It should be a snap with the SST program you have enough buttons. There are 2 categories of fighter pilots: those who have performed, and those who someday will perform, a magnificent defensive break turn toward a bug on the canopy. Robert Shaw
Eddie Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 It should be a snap with the SST program you have enough buttons. Only just, you will have to use almost every button and hat twice, the only buttons that have one function in my setup are the toggles on the stick base.
Poor mans sniper Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I will be very glad to get my HOTAS Warthog though. It looks like I will never get one of those, due to the oversized pricetag they put on it. They probably only pay $100 to make that damn thing.
Pyroflash Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Probably more than that. I actually think it is a rather fair deal considering the amount of time and effort they spent developing the stick. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
HitchHikingFlatlander Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 There is nothing to compare the Warthog HOTAS other than commercial type A/C sim controls and the Cougar. I think they've gone above and beyond just making something other than a X52 style HOTAS. Sorry guys I'm derailing the train here back on topic. New tanker model mentioned, wonder if this includes new behavior and truly functional online refueling OPs? It works now but it leaves a bit to be desired. Love the new ground AI routines thanks ED it's great to experience the engine/series grow and mature. Airbuster Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 A quick question about the new and improved AI units: What about the new models of Mi-26 and C-17 that had threads in the 3D Models section of the forum? They look awesome, isn't it possible to be integrated in DCS: A-10? Is this the final list of new aircraft units/improved 3d models? There were also new models for the sea fleet, what about them? Anyone care to answer my questions? 1
nemises Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 is anyone else really worried about how big of a pain its gonna be configuring your joystick? Im sticking with my x52, and its really gonna suck probably. Fortunately you won't be left in the dark in terms of information / documentation as to hotas functions... .. ...but it is the hardest X52 mapping excersize I've ever undertaken, lol
nemises Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Anyone care to answer my questions? I don't think the final list of "whats in" and "whats not" has been decided, so you'll haveto wait untill closer to release to get the answer I'm sorry
leafer Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 I wouldn't be too worry about a HOTAS lack of buttons and programming ability until DCS: Fighter come out. You'll have forever to set everything up going in to kill something on a slow moving A-10. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
