Bedouin Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Hey ya, I just last night finished the installation, setting up the Trackir, hotas etc... Now since i am a total newcomer in the flightsim world, i want to start by learning the start-up from cold, take off and landing... Which airfield is best for this or it's all the same..? Are it possible to setup a training mission for start/take-off/landing via the fast mission generator (sry in work now)..? regards, the super-happy owner and newb of the A-10 Beta :D .
Panzertard Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Have you tried the training-system from the menu? Try it. :) Otherwise you can play around with the Mission Editor: - place an A-10C, set Pilot -> PLayer. - Set waypoint 1 to "takeoff from Runway / ramp". Or don't change it - then you will start airborne. But there's alot of nice airfields out there, I can't really say that none are no-good. The mind is like a parachute. Bedouin Posted October 22, 2010 Author Posted October 22, 2010 Okay thanks, i now know what to use my 5-6 hours of "family-free-time" tonight with... .
CrashEd Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Welcome onboard :) Any of the non-Nevada airfields are a good place to start and have fairly simple layouts. I'd stay away from Nellis until you get a bit more proficient (lots of taxiways etc to negotiate). Pressing F10 and zooming in to the airfield with give you a good idea of the layout. The best thing is to try a few of the training missions that start off from the runway at either Batumi or Kobuleti and go from there. The Shooting Gallery mission starts off from cold iirc, but that is at Nellis (I think). There are one or two others. The best thing is to create your own. It's very easy, as Panzertard suggests. The training missions are also a good place to start. Remember it's a beta and a lot of things are not finished. Reading the beta forum will help you get up to speed, and reading the manual is a must! Good luck  HTH
hassata Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Any guidance as to which airfield/areas have better fps environments? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Panzertard Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Any guidance as to which airfield/areas have better fps environments? Generally speaking the "older" airfields with lowlands around them seem to give a lighter FPS imprint. Anapa, Krymsk and such. The mind is like a parachute. Headspace Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 (edited) I chose Batumi for my landing training video (part 1, at least) because it has a working PAPI. But Nellis seems to give a higher framerate. Are it possible to setup a training mission for start/take-off/landing via the fast mission generator (sry in work now)..? Yes, it is. Just create a new flight of A-10s and set the skill to "player". Maybe have just one A-10 if you're going to practice. Edited October 22, 2010 by Headspace
Duality Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I prefer the Shooting Gallery mission for training. It lets you practice your ramp starts, plus gives you a good variety of weapons to use without the risk of being blown out of the sky by AAA or SAMs. (It also includes the JTAC)
Sarge55 Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I agree with Duality, what he said and it has lots of waypoints so you can work with NAV and the runway is really long for some first time landings. No AAA but the BMP's are deadly if you get too close) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 10700K OC 5.1GHZ / 500GB SSD & 1TB M:2 & 4TB HDD / MSI Gaming MB / GTX 1080 / 32GB RAM / Win 10 / TrackIR 4 Pro / CH Pedals / TM Warthog
kylania Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 I have a fun little "landing practice" mission linked in my sig. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
Joyride Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 (Oh! No AAA but the BMP's are deadly if you get too close) First time I ran that mission I got enough trouble from the T-55's to take out an MFCD and cause a heap of trouble! I was not expecting to get shot at on a "training" mission. Before I upgraded my PC this week (holy 60 FPS goodness), I would run the "Smerch Hunt" mission out of Mozdok just to do some ramp start/taxi/takeoff training - seemed to get about as good as FPS there as anywhere since its rather barren.
