Guys

I’ve had TrackIR 4 w/pro clip for over a year now and have been eying up TIR5 on for a while. The reviews were all taken from the viewpoint of someone new to Track IR or from someone upgrading from the much older TIR3 generation. Will I see much improvement on my TIR4? I can get about £60 from my TIR4 on eBay so would be spending roughly £70 for the upgrade in the end, (unless I get a 2nd hand one).

Does the new model improve in TIR4 weaknesses, (at least as I experience them);

· Is it less susceptible to background light?

· Is it smoother?

· Does it allow finer / more accurate movements?

· Does it freak out less at extreme angles, (90 deg, etc)?

· Can it handle multi axis movements better? (For example. Look down at the rudder pedals, then, keeping your chin down; look right toward the lower right console. Now pan your head right to look at the rear right console. My TrackIR has a head fit doing this making DCS: A-10 CDU use impossible. I think this may be down to either too many axes at the same time or gimbal limits of the sensor).

TBH I don’t use the ProClip much as I don’t wear a headset to game much so I just use the hat clip thingy. If there isn’t much difference I will just wait till TIR6 :music_whistling:

**EDIT** Guys, I just really want the opinions of those who have upgraded from 4 to 5 really. Thats my predicament. Cheers

I dont know about the Track IR 4 but Ive the TIR5 and its seems pretty good but in the A-10 I disable the Z axis and use the Zoom option on the TIR5 Z axis instead that way I can move my head slightly forward and see the HUD/MFDs alot better. The option is in with all the other track IR axis in the A-10 program.

It works fine in low light also when I fly in the dark I use my bedside light (40W bulb) and have no issues.

Since the track IR is Infrared, i wouldn t see it fail from cold environment, but much more from heated environment... Or i am loosing something..

AFAIK IR missile seekers are refrigerated to -60 to be able to track planes, not heated.

HaF 922, Asus rampage extreme 3 gene, I7 950 with Noctua D14, MSI gtx 460 hawk, G skill 1600 8gb, 1.5 giga samsung HD.

Track IR 5, Hall sensed Cougar, Hall sensed TM RCS TM Warthog(2283), TM MFD, Saitek pro combat rudder, Cougar MFD.

Yeah, i'm using it. Its the extreme views where it messes up. trying to look at the Lighting control panel for instance. It wobbles all over the place.

If you mean when you zoom in far using the * key, not much you can do there. The sim is zoomed and TIR is just behaving as it should.

Have you tried Wags' DCS profile?

I use the pause feature for that kind of thing, get close, hit F9 to pause TrackIR, then use keys to get into position. :)

^^ lol :megalol::megalol:

I've upgraded from TIR4 to a TIR5 and I've seen a big improvement. The fov is much wider and the problem you're getting at extreme angles is nonexistent. It also seems to be a bit less susceptible to ambient light e.g. light streaming through a window.

Sold my TIR4 on fleabay for £90. RESULT :)

Heh. Only joking. :thumbup:

I will try using the trackclip pro and see if that improves things. Dont like wearing headsets though as i feel claustrophobic and besides, i have nice speakers with a big sub in my study.

Yeah, the track clip pro definitely yields better results but it's a pain having to use it with headphones. Shame you can't clip it to a baseball cap... I used one with my TIR4, however the TIR5 is still better.

Worth a try before you upgrade though.
