MadDogMcQ Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Just noticed that some of the switchgear on the throttle have a "cap" on top of them and some don't. The only difference I can see is that the "capped" switches are 3-way whereas the "naked" ones are 2-way. No big deal, but it just stood out to me immediately (and bugged me if I'm honest) :music_whistling: PC SPECS : * Intel i7 920 @ 4Ghz | P6T Deluxe V2 | 32Gb DDR RAM | GTX 1070i OC 8 Gb | H50 Water Cooler | Velociraptor 150Gb | Samsung SATA II 1Tb and Samsung 860PRO 512| Prolite 1080p 24" | Logitech G-19 | TM Twin MFD's | TM Warthog | TIR 5 (soon) | Windows 7/64 | My PC | My Blog | My Bikes
kaiserb_uk Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 So the switches that behave different, ARE different?

CrashEd Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Mines the same. I think it is just the design of the switch. The ones that appear to be capped actually still have a thread on the outside. Because they are spring-loaded in one direction, they probably need to be 'closed' to give the switch strength. The 2-way switches are all open. Silicone won't be going anywhere near mine. I'm making some covers, like the ones that you used to be able to buy for the Cougar, out of an old fleece :D
Slayer Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 You can buy rubberized switch covers that will screw onto those threads sticking out. I had a few that i unfortunately threw away the other day but you should be able to get them from any electronics supply, then they will all look the same.. Yes Mower, and they also left out the gold plated personally engraved I.D. Tags and the Nomex gloves. :P Its pretty much described as the best HOTAS out there by everyone who has one. I would say that is pretty fine attention to detail. Out Edited November 1, 2010 by PoleCat http://www.104thphoenix.com/
MadDogMcQ Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 I know it was me who raised the issue, but I'd be careful about ordering those switch-boots, because if you look at my photo (at the beginning) you will soon realise that there's barely any threads protruding through the casing for the switch-boots to screw onto. Succellus Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 It seems they did not put a better finishing because of the switch travelling distance needed, thats only my hypotesys to the cap / non cap, as i don t own one. Thanks Out 8 are needed and the ones I listed have a measurement of 5/8's of an inch (i assume that is the length of the switch) and are referred to as being for "bat handle" switches. I will hold off until either I have the WH to inspect myself, or someone who already has one can provide the measurements. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] "Is that you John Wayne?.......Is this me?" Observe this before doing anything. It's all about their choice of switch IMHO. They didn't put a cap on because, a) it costs more and b) the real throttle panel switches do not have them on ;)

If so how does the boot fit. Out Still waiting for my stick to arrive :/. I've replaced tons of switches like this in the work I do, all of them have a backup nut to set the depth of how much threads are protruding IE sometimes its just thin sheet metal other times it is 1/8" steel. Granted you will have to take apart your throttle to make the adjustment. You can also get trim rings that just hide the protruding threads, they are round and you can tighten them on by hand to pretty it up, you need about 2 threads sticking out to use these. CrashEd Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 They are a lot more expensive. Just have to keep them clean! Or put a cover over them when not in use, as I do ;)
Succellus Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Or seal the gap with silicone as i sayd, you dont have to drop the whole tube damn it. topdog Posted November 3, 2010 Posted November 3, 2010 I'll settle for not letting it rest long enough to gather much dust in the first place, and a can of compressed air, than make any such aftermarket adjustments to the switches - but that's just me :) [ i7 2600k 4.6GHz :: 16GB Mushkin Blackline LV :: EVGA GTX 1080ti 11GB ] [ TM Warthog / Saitek Rudder :: Oculus Rift :: Obutto cockpit :: Acer HN274H 27" 120Hz :: 3D Vision Ready ]
