JEFX Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 Hi! everyone, This is a question about mission building that is equally pertinent for FC2, BS or A-10C and is destined to mission building gurus such as GRIMES for example (thanks!): I know that if you place a friendly vehicle AT an airbase, it will be friendly and vice versa, but how close to an airbase a unit has to be to make it labeled as friendly or ennemy? If you have an ennemy unit at an airbase, can you make the airbase become friendly by destroying it? (I.E. will you be able to rearm and refuel there?) Can someone clarify those params because I would really like to build a mission with changing sides airbases (depending on our actions, or various triggers...) thanks a lot! JEFX Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 OK Just did some experiments : I started from an empty map with only 2 opposing countries. -First, I landed at an airbase with an ennemy truck at the airbase (right on it) and requested rearming and there was no reaction. -then, I took off again and destroyed the ennemy truch (guns, straffing) and landed again. Requested rearming and, again, there was no reaction... I made a new aspect to the same mission : -I added a trigger that spawns a friendly truck (5 minutes travelling away) when (and only when) the ennemy truck at the airbase is destroyed. -I straffed the ennemy truck and landed (before the friendly truck reached the airbase) and LO I was able to rearm ??? (how close, or how far a unit has to be in order to be considered PRESENT at an airbase? -I took off again and straffed my friendly truck (sorry...) and landed again and then, when asking to rearm, there was no reaction again (and I thought that was great). Can someone interpret those results? WHAT MAKES AN AB FRIENDLY OR ENNEMY AND HOW DOES THAT REVERSES???? THANKS!!! JEFX [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] In DCS I fly jets with thousands of pounds of thrust... 104th_Crunch Posted October 30, 2010 Posted October 30, 2010 "I know that if you place a friendly vehicle AT an airbase, it will be friendly and vice versa, but how close to an airbase a unit has to be to make it labeled as friendly or ennemy?" Not sure of exact distance, probably about 1 km "If you have an ennemy unit at an airbase, can you make the airbase become friendly by destroying it? (I.E. will you be able to rearm and refuel there?)" There are 3 states to an airfield, Red, Blue or White Neutral. You don't need to land to view the state. Just use the F11 map view and in the bottom left corner you will see a coloured flag that shows airbase's coalition. If a vehicle leaves the zone or is destroyed, airbase will become neutral. If a another vehicle enters the airfield zone after that happens, it will become the new vehicle's coalition, red or blue.
JEFX Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 OK, Just did some experiment and an airbase becomes part of an incoming vehicle's coalition when this vehicle is within 2 km (measured from the center of the AB, the symbol). JEFX Posted October 30, 2010 Author Posted October 30, 2010 only strange thing, if there are two vehicles (opposing coalitions) in the same 2 km radius from the AB, the base shows NEUTRAL?? crazyeddie Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) Stupid bit of coding, that has hampered anyone wanting to add to the buildings etc on bases as we did with Lomac. There is no point trying, your AI aircraft will simply fly off to the nearest friendly base regardless of what you do. They won't land at it. I guess that's why nobody is doing much about the maps in any of the newer games apart from tarting up what is already there, if you add a new building it has to be either red or blue, and then the problems start. Never worked out how to overcome it ... and I tried real hard. If anyone knows how to alter the airfield influence radius to zero for vehicles and buildings we could have found a solution to this problem. Not anticipating an answer to this, when I last posted on the subject over a year ago we had lots of ideas but none of them worked. Edited October 31, 2010 by crazyeddie
fitness88 Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 (edited) Flying FC2: While flying, for the purposes of re-arming and re-fueling can a base be determined to be friendly or not by calling into the base's tower? F11 for purposes of determining state cannot always be accessed in multi-player. Thank you. Edited December 10, 2010 by fitness88
