nannosk
Hi all, i have read about new PPU (Physics Processor Unit) from AGEIA. it will support : 1)Rigid body dynamics 2)Universal collision detection 3)Finite element analysis 4)Soft body dynamics 5)Fluid dynamics 6)Hair simulation 7)Clothing simulation does anybody know if it will be implemented in ED's future releases of lomac or future sims?? Here EGEIA's link: http://www.ageia.com/index.html and here a little demo of engine: http://dmode.datamachine.net/physx_carwash_waterdrop.exe
GGTharos
Start by asking 'Does anyone know if it will be implemented in a future product that you can strap onto your computer?' Hitman IF
I think the widespread use of this kind of physics chip is at least a couple of years in the future. On the other hand, the move to multiple processor cores as a way of improving performance makes it very logical to use a physics processing chip in a similar way to a GPU, particularly in gaming PC's. It would certainly be very useful in a flight sim. ---SVBS squad is playing Lock On, ADF/TAW and Typhoon now at www.svbs.co.uk !---
Prophet_169th
In the SMP talk lately, they point to a few things that this chip would help with. If the code was seperated into different threads, like a 2D engine, 3D engine, physics engine, then I can see this product helping a lot. But it will probably be a good few years before we even see this product being marginally used.
nannosk
i know that it is necessary a lot of time to implement new tecnology, but same time i think it's interesting to note that one of the partners is EPIC GAMES.
