Hey you know after tweaking my Nvidia control panel and changing some of the settings in there, my FPS is now over 60 and drops to about 30 during take-off in large airports..sorry off topic.

I changed the "Maximum pre-rendered frames" option to 5, instead of default 3, and noticed a large FPS increase in DCS, especially low altitude over airports. It's strange because I know GPU has little to do with FPS, but for some reason I'm getting better FPS with the above option set to 5.

I will give it a try I mean hell it can't hurt right. Also I ran a GPU load test wile in A-10C and the mx I got was 50% of the GPU so lots of room for prerender frames.

Well, I'm not sure I'd like to have a chipset that is 'defective' on my board- because 'so far' that is the only degradation they've found- but who knows what can still develop over time.

Even with a three year warranty, I've found that it is much easier to return to a retailer within 30 days then to jump through the hoops of a company warranty RMA down the road... I also don't like the feeling of wondering every time I turn the computer on whether it is going to work this time or not.

I'm sure there is going to be a ton of RMA's back to retailers in the next few days... which sucks because they don't expect replacement boards out until probably April. :-( What further sucks is that once I got this new system stable- I sold my old components on E-bay- so no gaming rig for me for a couple of months. *sigh*

In my case with my Gigabyte board, one of the two 6Gb/s ports wasn't working anyway, so I only have 1 other 6Gb/s port and 4 3Gb/s ports for use... which I have my DVD drives on the 3Gb ports- so I definitely need to have this board replaced. :-(

This recall thing really sucks.. Alot of extra work, Im thinking about just using the unaffected sata ports and forget about it. Depends on how they handle it.

damn... this is such an unexpected and unusual thing to happen... millions of CPU's and motherboards, laptops, PC to recall... I'm thinking this could hurt their reputation really bad if they don't handle it well

No longer active in DCS...

Kuky, as far as I understand it's the chipset that is involved, not the CPU.

Correct, the CPU is fine... only the chipset on the motherboard is affected... but this is a lot of problems for not only computer manufacturers, but especially for all the motherboard manufacturers. :-(

I went through something like this several years ago with a SuperMicro dual CPU mobo with their stupid MTH (Memory Translator Hub) and they did finally replace my mobo with a model that didn't use the MTH. Was a pita but they did make things right.

Asus is offering extended warranties on their LGA1155 boards because of this, but are saying their board specs and controller specs are beyond what Intel dictates. Hence, they don't anticipate any problems, but are willing to stand behind their stuff if a problem should arise. Good on Asus for standing behind what Intel screwed up. That being said however, my new LGA1155 system I just built not even 7 days ago is running flawlessly with Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I have recently done Sandra 2011 tests on its processor, and, well, it stands alone, by a long shot. Very happy so far with this "flawed" chipset.

So nice to see Intel and their OEMs responding so quickly to something most of us tweaker geeks will never see due to our not keeping a system that long. Some software producers, I think, could follow their lead. BTW, on the new machine? A-10C Beta 3 runs well. A-10C Beta 4? Still doesn't run at all. So, I'm convinced my Beta 4 problems are due to a corrupted download. A corrupted download that still gives good MD5 checksums. Hmmm, maybe MD5 is a joke and their producers should make a better program. Just sayin. ;) Same, EXACT, downloads as what I tried earlier on my WinXP 32 machine, but Beta 3 worked, and Beta 4 didn't. Yup, I guess MD5 checksums don't really amount to much.

Eaglecash, the issue would not manifest itself yet. It's 5-15% chance pver 2 year period, and the issue is due to a weak transistor in the metal layer that simply wears out over time. The good news though is that in only affects the 3Gbps ports, not the 6Gbps ports. And with most medium-to-enthusiast level ASUS boards you also have an extra Marvell controller for two extra 6gbps ports. And as the final creme-de-la-creme: the 6gbps ports are backwards compatible, so if you have 4 or less SATA drives you can just place them all on the 6gbps ports and be at zero risk of experiencing adverse effects.

Thanks for the information, EtherealN! I'll just plug my Blu-Ray burner into the remaining 6gb/s port.

sooo.... Do I get a I5 2500K or I7 2600k? I mostly play DSC and other sims. Which one can be over-clocked higher? The difference in price wont break my bank. But still, do i need a 2600 or will a 2500 do it? If one has a higher potential over-clock. Then thats what im going to go with.

Krebs20, unless you need Hyper-Threading for something (DCS won't use it), save yourself a hundred bucks and go with the 2500K. I've got mine running at 4.8 GHz on air cooling and could easily push it to 5.0. The few hundred extra MHz you might get with a 2600K won't make any difference in DCS -- see my post here to see how much O/C affects framerate.
