71. Ejection seat ground safety lever implemented.

Does it mean we wont be able to eject on ground, or just that it'll take 1 more step

I don't know the answer to this from an update standpoint, but as a former ejection seat mechanic I can tell you that the safety handle is to arm the ejection seat as part of the preflight. The ejection seat is armed before even starting the APU as it allows 0/0 ejection (zero altitude, zero airspeed) to 400 feet in less than 4 seconds. This is useful for catastrophic start failures... which is very possible as a good deal of critical aircraft issues take place on startup or takeoff.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

I've never heard of a pilot ejecting in a hanger... but I've cleaned up pieces of techs that did... by accident.

One guy had a drogue shute fire on him. A 6" steel cylinder went up through his chin and out the top of his head. He lived, because the chute was so tight in his skull it stopped the bleeding until they could do surgery. Apparently the part of his brain that took the rod wasn't too important :)

There are some hangers that allow startup inside the hanger. There's a sloped wall in the back that takes the jet blast and arcs it up and out of the hanger. We used to warm our hands on it while smoking.

On the carrier there was a guy trying to do that with a jetblast deflector on the deck. Wind was pretty high (it was near the arctic circle I think) and he got a little too warm. On military power the blast hit him the face and melted his cranial (plastic three piece helmet) to his face. They flew him off the boat, but I can't imagine he kept his nose.

StrongHarm,

What carrier did you serve on and what type of bird did you maintain?? Just curious?

The Air force has those also, the slang term for them is The Hush House. I've never had the death wish to go warm my hands with the air comming out of the can at 100% Aug, cause the wind going though there is like being in a CAT 3 Hurricane. Even if it is -30 wind going through there like the winters in AK, F* THAT! :)

StrongHarm,

I did transient maintenance on just about every carrier in the inventory. I was never attached to the ship. The most time I ever spent onboard was probably 2 weeks. My "A" school was E-2Cs and F-14s at Mirimar. I worked on a lot of different birds though, even some italian and brit. There were a lot of sorties going on and if you were good they used you hard. My favorite aircraft to work on was the F/A-18. Sweet maintenance computers and solid engineering. I ended up cross rating into every area of the aircraft and running a 224 day squad where we took the plane apart (mostly), inspected it, and put it back together. I got out in 1998 though.. long time ago so bragging rights have expired.
